SA Champion

Just picked this up today, cleaned & lubed and straight to the range. Put the Simonich "Gunner Grips" I got from Rob on it and put a couple of boxes of ammo down range. No problems, zip, zilch, nada. Worked like a dream. Shoots to point of aim at 7 & 10 yards, good for my purposes. Gunner grips are very nice, complement the parkerized frame nicely, provide a secure grip w/o being harsh and abrasive, like the factory grips.
I'm very happy !

Do SA 1911's still come with sharp edges?

What did you pay? I'm thinking about selling my stainless Champion.
All the 2002 SA Loadeds were dehorned.

Steve, too much! ;) But I was told by Springfield that only SS versions will be made in the future & I wanted the parkerized all steel model. seven bills. But I couldn't find it anywhere else and I wanted it now.

Let me put it another way. How good is the new "carry bevel" on the Springfield "Loaded" models?

Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. Shoot safe and shoot often.

Yeah, those Champs are sweet. Got myself a newer "Loaded" Stainless version a several months ago and couldn't be happier. Excellent gun so far. Got mine for $670, which seems to be about average for these.

I got my Champ used and found the carry bevel adequate -- no where close to the horns that came with my full size Springfield loaded.
I also got the parkerized steel version, I would not have bought it in stainless. What is it with manufacturers going to all stainless product lines. Why not go all carbon and offer hard chrome as a finish, along with blue and parkerizing. You can't blue or parker stainless, so you're left with the bake on finishes if you want to go dark. I just don't appreciate stainless.

the red-suited fatman left me a Champion last December. I've only been to the range with it twice, but my impression......
SWEEEEEET! ! !
My only whine is that the factory grips are well....harsh if you shoot a bunch in one session.

Check with Rob Simonich about the grips I have on mine (pictured above), they are grippy w/o being harsh on the palms. I too find the Springfield grips overly sharp, I dremelled my full size grips down to a nice smooth finish, soon to be replaced by Alumagrips.
I think I'll sell the grips from the Champion, as I see no reason to mess with them after getting the Gunner grips.
I can't wait to use my Champion in IDPA, should be fun!
