Holster review: HBE "Com" IWB

A while ago, Eric Larsen of HBE Leatherworks gave me a holster. I was very impressed with it, so I ordered another: This time, an IWB.

This model is called the "COM," and I'm even more impressed.

Retention is very good. The holster can be held upside down (probably indefinitely) and the gun won't fall out, yet the draw is easy. The holster has a reinforced top which makes reholstering almost effortless.

The holster looks like this:

Now... What would a review of a concealment holster be without showing how well it conceals?

Here it is with just an untucked t-shirt; front:

Okay, for part 3 of 3...

One neat thing about this holster: The COM holster was not designed to be tuckable, but it just turns out that it is... It is not easy to tuck, like ones designed for that, but if you have a minute to make sure it's done right in front of a mirror, it just looks downright sharp.

Me, tucked; front:

FYI: That's a fullsized pistol (FEG Hi Power clone) being totally and completely concealed... At least, to my eye. That's what I'd call impressive.

I'd like to offer a very big thank you to Eric. ;)

Well, Well........THANKS Fum......

I appreciate the very extensive write up.
The Com was designed by me and a Fed. Agent who carries a 1911 fulltime......"I sleep with my gun on".......style of fulltime :D

Its a great design and is a great heavy/large gun carry setup.

Thanks again....................Even Jen was impressed with it.......:D

Shoot well.

That's the next HBE rig I want. I have one of his excellent BPM IWB rigs, pictured here. The man is a leather genius. :D

Oh yeah! -- Did I mention it's comfy? You forget it's there. I've taken many a nap with it on. It just feels great. I've used it out shooting/camping (the only place I can wear it other than home) for many, many hours... even sitting in a car for much of that. I believe I was wearing it for more than 14 hours one of those trips.

Basically, it's just great. My friend also got one for his Makarov, and he concurs. ;)

Moparmike,

You know... I don't even remember how much it was. It was something like $70~ish.

Hey Wes,

How about a pic of the holster with the shirt tucked in tight and unbloused with no shirt overhang at all? I know it wasn't designed to be tuckable, so I won't be upset if it doesn't work with the shirt tightly tucked, but whenever I wear a dress shirt, it has to be neatly tucked, so I'd like to see a pic, even if it fails the tightly tucked test.

Trebor -- I don't think the COM would do very well unbloused. Haven't tried it yet... I'll let you know when I find out.

Have you guys seen the 1911 in the HBE SS holster??

That is Impressive! I don't do IWB so well. The SS belt holster
is more my style.

Would like to see such a holster for the RAMI, in horshide or course.
