If you want to shoot an SKS to decide whether you want one or not, just go buy one and shoot your own. You won't be disappointed. Its not a handgun, no matter what you get you will like shooting it and be happy you got it.

My buddy up in Lancaster has an SKS he hasn't touched in a while. I'll see what he's up to. I live in Riverside and have a Mauser, in case you change your mind. :D

usually guys on range let you shoot their gun if you are friendly, hehe,
damn, my SKS is stolen several months ago.

I'm probably going to be at Lytle Creek or Burro Canyon next weekend. Time to fire my Yugo SKS from Turner's for the first time.

I have, maybe, 900 rounds of 7.62x39 on SKS stripper clips.

Well, Skunk, I'll be at Burro with a couple of buddies this Sunday around noon. We're going mainly to plink with Garands, but if you want, I can bring my Yugo SKS. Fun plinker. Very reliable, accurate enough. Really cheap ammo. For around $200 for a nice one, you really can't go wrong.
