Horrible experience at Big 5, but ...

It's not their fault, oddly enough
I just found out that, even if the long gun is 50 years old or older, and on the federal list, AND i have a C&R license, I can STILL not cash and carry without a COE from the cal DOJ.
What the hell! I was fuming when the salesman told me this, and was set to write a nasty-gram about it, when I looked online, and found out this was true.
One more reason to get out of this [ ] state! I mean, that's probably one of the stupidest things I've ever heard!
So, I can order 10 albanian SKSs off the net and have em delivered to my door, no problem. But I can't get a single good M44 speciment without a bunch of hassle.
I can't wait to get out of here.

This is home to Diane [Feinstein] and Barbara [Boxer] so what else could you expect? My buddy has a C&R and we were trying to figure that one out to. He's bought about 60 rifels in the last 2 years (everyone was mail order) but has to go through an FFL dealer to buy a C&R handgun. Go figure.

I believe its like that everywhere ... if an FFL sells a gun and you're not another type 1 FFL then he has to treat you like any other slob ... C&R or not.
I've been told that here in Colorado and thats the way it was in Kansas when I lived there.

as I understand it, notwithstanding state rules, C&R folks are SUPPOSED to be cash n' carry. This is from the manuals they sent me.
But, then again, states can do whatever they want, apparently.
EDITED to add: by the way .... I was also asked why I "need" a "gun dealer's license"

A Collector's FFL does NOT allow the holder to violate state or local law or to buy guns interstate in contravention of state law. Some states consider a Collector's license holder like a dealer and any state laws apply only when/if the holder sells the gun to a non-licensee. Most do not recognize the Collector's FFL at all, and the holder is the same as a non-licensed individual as far as the state is concerned.
But MD, for example, allows a Collector's license holder to buy state regulated firearms (handguns/"assault rifles") on the license, but not to sell them in the state. If a Collector's FFL holder in MD buys, say, a pistol interstate, and wants to sell it to a MD resident (FFL holder or not), he must ship the gun to an FFL Dealer out of state, then have it shipped back to a MD licensed dealer. The MD dealer can then sell it.
Since MD does not regulate rifles other than "assault rifles", the holder of a Collector's FFL can buy bolt actions and the like interstate and sell them as he wishes.

I bought a 91/30 at a Big 5 here in Vegas, and I still had to do the yellow form and NICS check had I not had a CCW. I don't think they take C&R's anywhere.
01FFL's can and do take C&R's though, although from what I've read here many won't. I asked my favorite dealer if he'd take mine he said sure bring in a copy. :) All it saves me is filling out the yellow form, but what the heck!

Our Big 5 here in northstate even holds the guns 'til the next day past the expiration of 240 hours from purchase. :fire:
OTOH, Big 5 managers can (if they wish) sell any guns that have been on sale, or will be on sale, at the sale price if they want to. I went through a period of buying regularly from them, and the manager started offering me sale prices on everything that I looked at.
I figure that you have to balance the difference between a sight-unseen possibly vaguely graded C&R rifle via BBT, and hand-inspected-by-you rifle at Big 5 after you've picked through their entire stock. Each has their positive aspects.
I have bought several C&R rifles from them that were head and shoulders above what I was getting in the mail at VG grading, just because I could hand-pick them myself.
What'cha gonna do? <shrug>

I am with you on leaving the state. I graduate in exactly one year. And when I do, I will be going directly from the graduation stage with diploma in hand, to my already packed up truck and leaving this hell hole of Kalifornia. Tyler

I realize this, I was merely venting my frustration at the state law itself. I find it ridiculous.
Especially considering the fact that, if I was a thugling, I could have machineguns, bombs, and whatever the hell else I wanted.
