They are getting hard to find. I haven't seen any at the gun shows or advertised in quite a while.
When I've seen them they cost more than the 9x18.

I was going to convert one of mine a while back but the cost and possibility of botching the job didn't seem worth it.

Cheaper to get a Bersa 380 for plinking.

If you can't find one, making your own will cost you an extra $45 for the barrel and $29 for the barrel press. Doesn't sound difficult with the barrel press but I've never done it. Scroll most of the way to to see the barrels & barrel press:

I love mine!
got it NIB Arsenal Bulgaria in .380
Polished blued finish and 3 mags for $220 OTD. Sure it cost a little more, but the commercial quality plus no shortage of good commercial ammo makes this a great gun. A set of Makawrap grips and she is perfect...well, except for the sights, but thats nothing a good smith couldn't fix.
BTW, mine was imported by the now defunct Miltex Inc.

-edit- and no, its not for sale :)

While this is not really an answer to your question, you might want to think about the Mak in 9x18. They're easier to find (and probably less expensive), the ammo is cheap and easy to get (dansammo.com), and somebody posted on this forum that if you think of 9x18 as a .380+P you've pretty much got a handle on that cartridge (nice one, whoever thought of that).

The Makarovs that were reDILY available in .380 were commercial imports. Those have not been imported for several years. So, it is catch-as-catch-can.

As to swapping the barrel to turn a 9x18 into a .380, it is an easy enough process on paper, but there are subtle things to look out for along the way. Alamo is pointing to the best source for a write-up on the procedure. Before you get too far into it, best go over to the Mak forum at Gunboards and do a search for additional advice.

I also have the Arsenal 380 (commercial bulgarian) that I picked up a few years ago new in box. Excellant accuracy and reliability...standard for most any Makarov. Didn't know anything about the Makarov until after I bought it. Have not seen one like mine since and I have looked. Though I did find some Russian commercial versions chambered in 380 and the finsish looked pretty rough.

Do agree that unless you simply want a Makarov in 380 a Mak in original 9X18 would be easier to find. And agree that the Bersa in 380 is and excellent alternative...especially given the better sights on the Bersa.

The major Makarov sight online is now an FFL and I am willing to bet that one might come through there from time to time so you might be able to put a standing order in for one.
