Recommend me a red dot scope

Im looking at red dots for an AR. Mostly to shoot out to 100 yards accuratly. I already have a heavy target upper, but its too heavy for toting around, and i want something as a defensive/thee gun rifle/camp defense. (mostly for any 2 legged goblins)

Anyway. Im looking at EOTECHS, and then HAKKO, ATN. These will be carry handle mounted, but may be gooseneck mounted instead. Im still decideing. Does anyone have any experience with any of these red dots. I really like a tubeless one also. I just dunno which to get.

Used the EOtech, OKO and Reflex (as far as tubeless red dots go).

Didn't care for the Reflex. OKO is a decent red dot if your budget is tight but probably worth saving up for the EOtech.

The EOtech is a good sight and is being regularly improved as well. Some people don't care for the reticle which can look a bit grainy since it is a holographic projection via laser of a series of smaller dots.

Mounting on the carry handle an EOtech or similar sight is going to be 4-5" above the bore of the rifle. That is pretty high up there. A gooseneck would help you get it down to a normal for ARs 2.5". I definitely recommend the gooseneck for 3-gun or get used to a lot of holdover at ranges of less than 50yds.

Alternatively, you could probably but a new flattop receiver for what a gooseneck mount cost - or you could buy a railed free-float tube and mount the EOtech on that.

If you're looking for a quality dot sight, the EOTECH and the AIMPOINT are the only contenders; of the two, I prefer the Aimpoint. If you're using A1 or A2 sights, you're going to need a goose neck mount to bring the optic down into your sight plane, or you can use a "delta" style cheek piece.

Here's a pic of my Colt to give you an idea of what the Aimpoint set up looks like:

Stay away from ATN. Midway has them for sale on their site and also has a long list of customer "reviews"..... you should read the crap they say about ATN. They do not hold up at all.

I have an OKO which is pretty good. I also hear C-More is close to indestructable.

I put a Hakko BED 35 on my SU-16 and I think its great.
VERY lightweight and all of the reticles are bright and visible under noonday sun. Changing retcles is done by a switsh on the back and it stays zeroed when you switch around.
I don't know how it will do over the long run, but its off to a great start.

Rabbit9, what suppressor is that you have on your rifle? What did it cost you, if you don't mind my asking?

(Really, honestly not trying to hijack the thread.)
