I know that an unlicensed person may not SHIP a handgun to another unlicensed person in another state. But does anyone know whether federal law addresses an unlicensed person transporting a handgun by automobile to another state and selling it there to another unlicensed person? I can check out any US Code provisions which are cited.

Thanks

It's against the law, period.

Yep, it is against the law for a non FFL to transport a handgun across state lines to sell. My Father-in-law had a Colt he was going to sell, but since he live in another state, we would have to go through a FFL to transfer the pistol across state lines to sell it to me. This was made very clear to me by an ATF agent, no matter what angle I tried to present to him on the sale.
