Finally Got A Chance To Handle One Of The Guns I have always Wanted To Check Out.

Went to the local gun monger over the weekend and found an HK VP70 in the case with two or three factory 18 round magazines. Was going for like $500 bucks which seemed like a pretty good price for what seems like a pretty rare gun. Anyway I have always wanted to handle a real one just to check it out. I mean the gun is very very cool looking and with 19 rounds of 9mm on tap it would make an interesting evil gun to have around.
Anyhoo I can honestly say I have never felt a trigger worse than the one on that VP70. I mean it was like one of those nightmares where you just keep pulling the trigger and nothing happens. It creeped, it was heavy, it was horrible and I am not one to really tell the difference between trigger pulls. I can tell a really really good trigger or a really really bad one and this sucker was worse then bad.
Not something I would shell out my $ for but kinda cool non the less.
I had toy guns growing up with much better trigger pulls I tells ya.

I hear ya! I recently "bumped" into one as well. Really good condition 2 mags & ....$600 :what:
The cool factor is pretty high w/ this gun, but he YUCK factor on that trigger just oozes all over it :scrutiny:
Now, $600 & that trigger really didn't make sense to me. But if it were $400, I would've probably bought it to add to my HK pistol collection :scrutiny: I guess, I'll just apply my intentions towards a P9S in 45 acp...

My friend who is an HK collector has a VP70 and it is by far the worst trigger I've ever imagined. I had to use both index fingers to pull that trigger with any hope of accuracy. I didn't even finish one 18 round magazine.
It's a very cool gun from a historical/unique/collection point of view, but no fun to shoot.

Yeah, back in the 80s that model was just about tops on my list of 'cool guns' along with the Detonics Score Master, the COP and the S&W 27.
Well, at least the S&W is a good gun. ;) Both of the VP70s I've handled had atrocious triggers and felt pretty cheap in general.

Ah, but it is the official sidearm of the Colonial Marines. :D

Saw my first one this weekend at a show here in Timonium, MD. Looked real cool, but was awkward in the hand. Had the most God-awful trigger I have had the misfortune to pull.
At first I wondered if the dang safety was on. Nope, it just pulled like a manual staple gun. Pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, click, CHUNK.
No mag well to speak of; very tight magazine didn't slide in easy, or drop free.
Also sat with an uncomfortably high bore, can't imagine it would be any fun to shoot.
My brother picked it up after me, I told him he'd pull the trigger once then put it down.
He pulled the trigger, frowned, then handed it back to the dealer.
I'll pass.

:( Words from a true addict! :(
Unfortunately, I know that if I find one at better price or w/ more accessories, I'm buying one, trigger and all! :D

The closest I've ever come in a description of the VP-70 trigger is that it's like the old Zebra Disk Shooting guns.
Interestingly, though, I can actually shoot these things fairly well.
There was one for sale at the local "rob'em & cheat'em blind" gunshop -- $600, with I believe 1 magazine.

There's a guy on HKPRO that reported excellent results by just shortening the striker spring. Wolff also makes a replacement spring. I think improvement is possible, if limited.

For $500, I'd get it under my incurable delusion that I could fix the trigger. :)
