I've applied for my C&R, and VERY shortly after getting it I'll be ordering a K-31. My only concern with it (aside from the price of the surplus ammo, but I'll be reloading to cure that) is the stock condition. I've read a bunch of threads here where folks complained about how the Swiss beat the heck out of their stocks. Anyhow, what simpler solution could there be than a new set of furniture? Which raises some questions:

1) Are any new stocks out there?

2) If so, where and for how much?

3) Are there any synthetic stocks available (yes, I know, that is heresy - but I'm not in the Swiss Army nor am I buying it as a collectible, I just want a cheap boltie with a bit of history that will shoot accurately, and a synthetic stock stays the same size no matter what the temp and humidity are).

Good topic! I've been searching but haven't found any synthetic stocks. The best sporter stocks I've seen have been on older Schmidt-Rubins and frankly I don't think they fit K-31's. The existing stocks are similar to the Garand. Quite "puffy" and having a lot of air space around the barrel inside. So they can take a lot of abuse without impacting the barrel or receiver. But it would be nice to have a synthetic stock to toss them in from time to time.

You can try to contact this guy in NH... http://www.lprgunsmith.com/K31_rifles.htm

I have not talked to him, but he is the only thing about K-31 that I can find by searcing Web in the US.

I remember seeing a link for a guy out in Vegas somewhere on another web-site. If I can find it I will post here. I think he had both new and used.

Boyd's will be producing drop in sporter stocks for the K31 sometime this year.
I spoke with one of their reps. at the NRA convention and confirmed this last month.
