My brother is staring down the barrel of a charter flight to the "CENTCOM area of operations," and he's telling me that he doesn't have a good knife handy. I'm headed down to the knife store to pick up a Camillus or a Ka-Bar knife later today, but I need to make sure that it's kosher to send it USPS or FedEx or whatnot. I'm mailing it from OK City to Bamberg, Germany. Anybody know the law on shipping a knife like that?

He can't find one there? The Germans are well known for their metallurgy. Last time I checked, delivery to Germany was somewhat expensive coming close, if not over, the the price of a Ka-Bar(-type) to ship something of that size.

If you send it USPFO, you still need to include a customs declaration for german customs. Expect it to tale forever to get there.

Ok, I guess I'll give the post office a holler to find out what forms and whatnot I need to do it. Are you sure I'll need a customs declaration to send it to an American installation over there? I've never sent more than a letter overseas, so I really haven't a clue.

hksw, I am absolutely certain that Bamberg has a PX where he could pick one up for $3. He wants his brother to send it to him, and his brother is willing to spend two weeks pay to make sure it's in his hands when he needs it.
