my dad picked up this sxs 12 guage a few years back and never shoots it. the receiver says "valiant" on the side and has the number "13" stamped on the underside. barrel just says "proof tested 12". i think he payed about $100.
it's not in the prettiest state, as someone glued a red bead up front and there's a crooked hole in the stock where they tried to screw in a sling swivel.
it's alot of fun to shoot, and was wondering if anyone could give me more info on what it is.
thanks

proven:
The valient is a trade name used by Spear and Co of Pittsburg PA on firearms they retailed.
The guns is obviously a "Hardware Gun" guns made by a major mfg of the time, for hardware stores, or just about anyone who wanted their name on a shotgun. This is purely speculation, the gun may have been made by Crescent, Crescent Davis or H&D Folsom. They were the major mfg's and importers of the 1800's and 1900's

These old ones are oft lots of fun, Proven, but they should be checked out by a smith before Shot One.
The Curse of The Short Chamber Demon falls on many of these. Easily rectified in most cases, but not free.
Once OK'd by the smith, this would work well for small game, informal clays, or most upland stuff if stoked with the right loads.
Unright loads would include Maggie Numbs, slugs, and steel.
Value pack fodder, target or field loads are the right stuff.

thanks guys
not actually sure what the chamber is, but i've run 2 3/4 value pack stuff. don't plan on using anything but light loads in it for clays every so often.
