Do we at THR have an in-house counselor or psychologist?

I'd kind of like to find some sort of counselor (or similar) that I could PM about gun-related or forum-related things that I think I need to talk about. I'm having some hard times lately.
Can't afford professional help, and wouldn't dare talk about guns to a "professional" anyway.
I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer.
Wes

I was going to seek help for my Garand-o-holism, but since this is a serious thread, I'll go back into the shadows and sit quietly -- waiting for the next FEDEX truck to stop at my house. :scrutiny:

Wow I have been wondering kindof the same thing myself but wasn't sure how to ask the question. I was afraid the thread would be closed within minutes due to being off topic.
I am just curious about the profession in general and am soon (1 year) going to have my bachelors in Psychology. Things like job options and ways of getting experience while working on my masters is what is bugging me. So if any of y'all psychologists or counselors could spare some time for another inquisitive mind....

I'm a licensed psychotherapist in PA. I'll answer what questions I can.

My background is in forensic and social psych, but I will say that any worthwhile clinician should help address your issues without allowing any of their personal issues from intruding. People seem to think that the social sciences are generally anti and I am not certain that is entirely accurate.
When it comes to "forum related" issues I think that many, many people have some. This is an extremely different form of interpersonal communication that is still in its infancy. We tend to try and apply normal communications conventions and they do not always work. I have'nt seen any research on it, and it will be hundreds of years before we have adapted the way we communicate to this medium. To paraphrase McLuhan, the medium screws with the message.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and would be happy to help you (or anyone else on this forum) in any way I can. This forum has been an invaluable source of information to me and it is nice to be able to give something back. You can PM or e-mail me.

Having worked in the behavioral health field for a few years now, I am surprised by the number of the responses from MH professionals.
Kinda inspires me to look at grad school for my Master's in Counseling...

Thanks, Oleg. Good to know. This thread may become useful to more people than just Wes, with all the good folks offering help.

I am truly stunned! This place is the greatest. It is rare that you get to see a community in real life or the internet that is this supportive and carring. Great work all, you are the best!
