OAL lengths?

I figured that this would be the best place to get the "right answer" since you guys have the manuals and all. When I buy a box of new "factory" .38 Special ammunition, the OAL is always a little shorter OR longer on a few cartridges. Can somebody please give me an answer of how long is too long/how short is too short for a given box of the same brand?
In other words, how much variation is OK?

Thanks,
KR

I really hate to answer this way- Accuracy should be your only criterion. Is it accurate? There will always be some seating depth variation due to excess lube building up in seaters, but more than a few thousandths of an inch (IOW, visible seating differences) would probably make me wonder about the quality of the ammo. Got any pics?
