That should be a real beauty to shoot. Looks like a 629-4 or earlier. I just got a Mtn Gun of similar vintage. I have had for a number of years a 5inch 629 Classic with full underlug. Also have several Rugers...but nothing compares to a Smith for smooth. Good shooting.

A real sweet shooter but beware of heavy
bullet loads in these older 629's (300 grain bullets and up) they don't have the newer guns improvments. The good thing is they will take Elmers loads all day long
(17 grains 2400 under a 250 SWC in special cases 18-22(depends on which load your gun likes the best) grains in a magnum case YMMV - loads for information only load at your own risk)
The grips are Herretts.

Nice gun! I am SO jealous. A 629 is on my short list of must-have guns (along with a Mossberg 500, a Bushmaster, a lever-action .357, and MAYBE a Glock 30) but it will be a while since no new guns will be purchased by me until next year (job worries...and any disposable income I can find will go towards training). Best of luck with your find.

Recoil is such a subjective thing. But, one thing that is not subjective is that 629's make a heck of a noise. Protect your hearing and vision. Wear some kind of good shooting glasses and hearing protection device. Also, the less I am bothered by sound the less fearsome the recoils seems to be. Good shooting;)

Certainly agree: glasses and two plugs along with muffs are regularly worn with all high intensity rounds. I have a 4 inch 357 and 5 inch 44 mag that are absolutely helloshly loud. Reducing that noise certainly improves shooting for me. 38 cpecials and 44 specials along with 45 Long Colts are not high intensity to the same degree.
