Gun show deal, and I let it go

I went to the C & E gunshow in Richmond today, was just browsing around when I came upon something that made my hand shoot for my wallet. A Norinco 1911...for 279.99. The tag said it was used, but to me it looked like it had been barely shot, and definitely didn't look like it had been carried. It felt tight, and the slide to frame fit looked a lot better than the nearby Llamas (which isn't saying too much I guess). However, after fondling it several times I decided not to buy it, as it was a choice between owning the 'Rinco or eating, and I chose eating. Ah well..maybe next time.

Dont feel bad.

I passed on a Springfield Champion 1911 for $450 and had nightmares for 2 weeks.:banghead:

I would have bought the gun, then "accidentally" ran over a large animal on the way home so I could eat.

I'd have bought the gun and told the family we're gonna try a nifty new diet plan. :D

Yikes! I would have been visibly twitching for weeks myself in addition to the nightmares if I'd somehow passed that up myself.

Today, I saw a CZ-75D PCR for only $299 NIB at the Houston gun show. I would have bought it in an instant, but I already own!

Look at it this way, a new firearm will still be with you years down the road whereas any food you eat, no matter how delicious, will be in the septic tank in less than twelve hours.

Missed picking up a FAL with an imbel receiver, not a Centruy monkey job either, for $350... decided I didn't want to spend that much at the time while I was buying my Springfield Loaded... well, since I didn't spend then, I will probably have to spend around $150 more later...

How very responsible of you. Llamas don't count as a comparison to anything but a poorly made brick though. Your restraint is commendable. Mind you, if it had been a Colt 70 series, your resolve would have been seriously tested.

Good point about the Llamas, Sunray. They looked like they had been pounded out of pot metal by a bunch of blind, hyperactive monkeys. Slides rattled on several of the guns I picked up, and the fit and finish was awful. The Norinco however, was easily comparable to the other "cheap" 1911's like Charles Daly and RIA, and was creeping up on the Springfield Mil-Spec. Man, the bluing on the frame rails even looked 100%..sigh..maybe next time..

I saw a guy one time that was selling a LNIB USP45 for only $459.00. He said that his wife bought it for him as a present but he already had one "hidden" from her in the safe :D

Please don't put the Norinco's in the same class as a Llama. The Norinco is the only other frame besides Colt and Springfield that Wilson will work on. The steel is very high quality, and the guns themselves clean up nicely.

So are the Norincos a decent (for the money) product? Or are they a headache in waiting? I've never owned a 1911 or clone, and I wonder if this is an acceptable intro.

Also, I've been seeing a lot of "Rock Island" 1911s-can anyone comment on these?

Thanks

The Norincos are a super buy, especially at the price quoted. The Rock Island pistols are made in the Phillipines
