Hey guys, well I just put through about 30 rounds of 00 and slugs on Friday and my shoulder didn't like me after that. Should I just look at getting a new recoil pad? If so, any recomendations?

Thanks

1) Read http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11646 on Proper Mounting Techniques (PMT) from the list of _TFL_ floating threads at the top of the page.

2) Be careful beating yourself up shooting heavy loads a lot IF IT HURTS- you will induce all sorts of problems like flinches, trigger jerks etc.

3) Any physical problems like bursitis, rotator cuff problems etc in that shoulder?

now that I think about it, I think its just really bad form in that I wasn't anchoring the shotgun well enough(I have a bruise about the size of a silver dollar on the upper part of my bicep :banghead: :o )

I'll buy some light loads and go put a tube down range tomorrow

What helped me was when I started using PMC brand slugs. They have a plastic cushion wad. This does make a difference. Most other brands only have hard paper board wads. Federal also has plastic cushion wads with their slugs.

IMO, it's a software prob. The bruise on your bicep is proof. A sideways stance and a little slack between you and the pad will and has caused exaqctly what you're describing.

First, save the heavy loads, buck and slugs for later. Use the lightest loads you can find. Walk before running.

Get behind your shotgun. Pull it HARD back into the cup. Lean well into the shot.

Read the thread on PMT in the TFL floaters and the one in the Archives on Shooting Heavier Loads.

well, me and my typical stuborness I tried to sprint before running ;)

Anyways all I had was a tube of buck shot, slugs and 1 round of a target load.

Trying to put it in the cup although I cant feel a cup on my body that well. 2 other shooters at work showed me what you guys are referring to, and I just cant feel it that well. THere is a slight indentation just below the collar bone...

I shot the target load with no discomfort what so ever. I was also able to shoot 1 buckshot which just felt like a strong push and thats it. The other 3 buckshot however felt a little worse ;) One felt like it hit the holy moly out of part of my collar bone but I didn't think I had it anchored high.
BTW, I'm 5-10 170 so I'm not twig boy either :D

I'll just keep looking on the net and read up on form etc
