Model 10 binding

When I shoot the mod 10 it wants to bind up after the first few shots. Seems to be no ryme or reason to it. I end up pulling the trigger too hard till it breaks and the shot goes wide. After reloading it shoots fine the first time (or couple) and then does it again.

Also, when looking at it, the cylinder rubs against the barrel for part of it's travel slightly. However, empty, it dry fires fine, no binding.

When the yolk is swung out I can't see any runout in the cylinder.

What's up?

Super:

A few things come to mind....

A bit of 'crud' under the extractor star

Cylinder face/barrel forcing cone may have a bit of crud.

Certain brand of ammo backing out of the cylinder a bit after firing.

Other folks here will have more ideas; that's the stuff I would check first.

I've had an S&W or two do that. Needed the extractor rod pulled out and cleaned of oil and powder residue. While you're at it, run a pipe cleaner or something down inside the center hole in the cylinder and clean the gunk out of there, too.

If the cylinder is actually rubbing against the rear of the barrel, better call S&W. They may have not cut the bbl. "square" at its terminus, which is not too uncommon. If it's too long, you may have a barrel/cylinder clearance problem.

I agree, call S&W. They should take care of you.
