You know I have to agree. I think as a group, the people on this board are about as knowledgeable, witty and wellread as any you're likely to run into(except for that guy who thinks Garands are junk)and also just a nice bunch of folks.

There are tears running down my cheeks, I kid you not. It's been years since that happened.
Money is on the way in some way, shape or form. I'll be damned if I see a vet not get to touch a sidearm he loves.

Man, this sort of thing is why I started posting on this board. On other boards I frequent, when people talk about getting evicted from the house they've spent their whole life in, or when they talk about having to sell some of their guns to make rent, or something similarly awful happens to them, everyone just gives them the "ye olde sympathy." Not that it isn't good to feel for people, but this is the first time I've ever seen a group of people come together with such... anonymous charity. Here, a man they've never met, in trouble, because he has to sell something his father loved, and so many High Roaders immediately leapt to their feet and offered, wanting nothing in return, to help this man hang on to the memory of his father.
Ah, jeez, now I've got myself all choked up. I love The High Road, even if I don't post here much.
On a personal note, my father has my grandfather's old Remington Model 12, that was in his truck when he was fatally injured in a crash with a god(expletive) ed UPS driver, and even though it doesn't work (yet), I don't think I my father, or anyone, for that matter, in my family, could ever give up that gun, it's all we really have left of grandpa.

I had NO idea THIS thread was even here... this is the first time I've seen it. Amen, mwithers72, and all the rest... I, too, am as proud as I can be to have such a wonderful place to call home, with a wonderful family inside...

Reading that thread has me wiping tears from my eyes. I wish I was not in such a financial bind myself, so that I could help you out. I had to sell one of my guns just a few weeks ago so i could afford the bills. While it was nothing that held memories or value like yours, Steelharp, I understand a very small portion of what you are going through. And like I said, if I was able, I would help out with everything I could.
I am honored to know that this community has let me post here, and let me become a part of it. I've been a part of a large number of message boards, and this by far is the nicest, more mature, most knowledgeable, and most kind hearted.
Steelharp, Please tell your dad that I said Thank you for all the things he did for our country, and all the freedoms we have because of brave souls like his. And that goes to all the other veterans that are on this board.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to dry my eyes before anyone here at work sees me.
