How many shots for a barrel to "get used to" ammo?

I'm going to be shooting my scoped 8" Ruger .22/45 for accuracy with a dozen different brands of ammo in order to find the best one for this gun.
What sequence or protocol do you use between brands, or, how many "fouling shots" do you fire before shooting a group for the record.
Here's what I'm thinking:
After brand #1, I will then pull a bore snake through the barrel and then fire twenty rounds of brand #2, then fire the five or ten shot group for the record. Then, the bore snake and on to brand #3.
Would using the bore snake and then fire the fouling shots do the trick?
I know that if you don't do it 'right' that the brand that groups best in the trials may not be the best when used exclusively.

Ten rounds should be plenty. For ultimate accuracy it isn't just the brand but the lot that is important.

I think your protocol is fine. For what it's worth, I read a few years back in Precision Shooting that Eley never cleaned their test rifles. My cleaning now is usually a oily patch scrubbed down the barrel after a range session. Too much humidity here for non-cleaning, too little carbon and lead in the bore for a serious scrubbing. I *think* most .22 RFs get worn out by over cleaning.

Your protocol seems fine. I tried something similar w/ a my Mk II last year. Actaully had alot of fun trying to find the ammo she likes best.
Enjoy yourself!

I got to go to the range today.
I shot ten "fouling shots" on a seperate target, then five for the record, then pulled a boresnake through the gun, loaded five in one magazine and ten in another. That last part allowed the gun to cool a bit.
I tried 14 different loads today.
All of them were under an inch at 25 yards!

Seems like the protocol, and the gun, work very well!

As a scientist and a shootist, I follow a very pragmatic formula for choosing my .22 LR ammo: Whatever's on sale @ Wal*Mart or Big 5 Sporting goods

So true.
