Thanks to those submitting answers to my Browning Baby inquiry.

While looking for various Baby's, which fascinate me with their punyness, I kept finding Colt 1908 Hammerless pocket pistols.

The Colt is bigger and more complex. I have a feeling that all those extra safeties still don't address the striker safety issue (or is the Colt different from the Baby in this regard?)

This would be for a shooter, not collection. Carrrying isn't much of an issue either (I have a tiny .22 with a drop safety). Which would you rather: a PSP made Baby clone (FN license) for $150, OR a bad finish or refinish 70 year old Colt for $200 to $250?

Thanks again!

The Colt 1908 is a classy little gun. I really like the Belgian Browning .25. Didn't know they were scarce. I see them at gunshows quite often. They stopped importing them after gun control act of '68, IIRC. I would not consider a clone if the other pistols are available.

My Colt Vest Pocket .25 was made in the 20's and it still shoots fine. The guy I got it from claimed his mom carried it in her purse daily, I beleive him as the finish is mostly worn off, but there is still case hardening visible on the trigger and grip safety. The hard rubber grips are original, and unchipped.

If I was to buy one today, there is an outfit that refinishes old purse-horse Colts with a hard chrome beast-blast finish that looks great. Doubt it will de-value the pistol in any way (unless yours is marked US Property) In fact I was shocked to learn what that little Colt was worth.

I haven't handled a Baby Browning yet, but I'm sure they are just as shootable.
