Can someone tell me how I can do a search for topics which include words that have only two digits.

For example,

'M1 Carbine scope mounts'

When I try to do a search on I receive a message that says that I need at least 3 characters to do a search....i.e. 'M1' is only two characters.

Try using a wildcard: M1* Carbine scope mounts

Unfortunately the [??????] vBulletin V2 search engine seems to choke when a wildcard word is used with any other word. "M1* carbine" hangs up, but "M1*" works and, of course, "carbine" works. There is no good answer to your predicament. I would probably do a post search on "carbine scope mounts" and filter out the M1 entries manually.
