Does anyone have any suggestions on makes and models of hardshell handgun cases for flying?
Thanks for the help.

Starlight and Pelican. Both virtually indestructable. Not cheap...but nice stuff.

I have made over 600 flights with a declared, unloaded handgun (in holster or zippered bag) in my hard-sided Samsonite. Recently, a ticket agent for a Delta commuter partner tried to force me to purchase an "approved" case for $50 for a return flight. When I objected, she consulted with a local policeman (who had absolutely no standing in this federal matter) and a TSA supervisor (who stated "the Federal Govt. has no problem with my method"). I had the ticket agent call Delta Corporate in Atlanta, GA, who told the local agent I was in compliance with FAA regs. All this problem arose because the local agents had been misinformed in training.
Since then, I've used a hinged, foam-lined, polypropylene case purchased at Outdoor World/Bass Pro Shop for about $5. Padlocks are placed on both front corners (when case is closed). Case is placed in hardside luggage which is also locked.
While FAA specifies hard-sided, lockable, case, the regs don't require an inner gun case. Normal hard-sided luggage suffices.
