This thread (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84871) made me wonder about the legality of finishing an 80% receiver. In that post, the poster was wondering if that could be used as a loophole in CA law.

But I got thinking - is it legal to finish an 80% at all?

Lets say that the finished product doesn’t violate any laws - the finished gun complies with the NFA, GCA FOPA, AWB yadda yadda yadda.

So how about it? Is that legal?

Thanks,
Nick

ATF response to a letter I wrote to them regarding manufacturing an AR15 for personal use:

Feel free to come visit the forums at Roderus Custom Gunworks (http://www.roderuscustom.tzo.com/), pretty much the home of every 80% project you could think of from Ruger MkIs to semiauto 1919s, we'd be happy to answer any questions you might have.
