Well, maybe not. But at least for now. So, to that end, rather than spending money on guns that may or may not see much use, I have decided to spend my money on other avenues of gun ownership.

My first project is to send my Delta Elite to Ted Yost for some serious makeover. It takes more money and time than buying a new one, but I feel is a better way to spend my money.

Those engraved Rugers for sale here a short while ago made me realize how good engraving enhances a gun. So, to that end, I am sending a nickle M57 S&W off to an engraver for a simple but well stated makeover.

This aspect of improving guns actually feels better than buying another at this time.

I may buy more guns, but for a while I think I am going to go down the other fork in the road and make better what I have.

Having enough and having all you want may be two different things. I have all I need, but I have alot more to buy seeing as how I'm just getting into C&R, full-auto, plus suddenly I want more big-bore wheel guns to reload for. Life is good. :)

Interesting, I've visited and revisited that fork in the road many times! One thing that I found, and of course YMMV, but sending guns out for mechanical enhancements hasn't paid off for me yet. For instance, I bought a $600 BHP and put about $600 more into the trigger, barrel, etc., and in the end I would have been better off just buying a $1,200 S&W952. I also put a bunch of money into a Kimber Ultra Eclipse, and while I would not go as far as to call it a "polished turd" - I will say that the inherent flaws of a three inch barrel .45acp don't get any better when you throw more money into it. Which is why at this point in time, I'm standing motionless at the fork in the road -- I don't want to throw more money at the guns I have, and I can't afford the guns I want! I'm saving up for an Ed Brown KC - till then, I'll just wait here at the fork.

Now engraving and hard chroming are things I haven't tried yet, some day I'll take that path I'm sure.

Just last week a friend who is a car collector said he had just sold 3 of his autos to down size. Real nice stuff. Anyway we were on a cigar walk and talk when we walked past a replica '32 ford phaeton (sp) I think. Anyway, bought it on the spot. If you are truley an enthusiaist, as most of us are, it never stops.

rcm nailed it - it never stops, till the credit card screams. I haven't bird hunted since I left South Dakota, and boy do I miss those pheasants. I refuse to pay $25.00 to shoot the tame ones on the "preserves" in NC. In fact, I sold my Browning BSS Sporter when I moved back here almost 20 years ago, basically because I sometimes am an idiot.

So anyway, I'm browsing the other week, see a Browning Superlight Grade III, go home and dream about it for a few nights, and yesterday it became mine; after all, I might get back to South Dakota someday!?!?

I have enough guns also. Yet I keep buying more. There must be a support group for us somewhere. I'm afraid to go to gunshows b/c I'm afraid I might come home with something new.

You know I keep seeing the figure that there are so many guns in the US, that there is easily a 1:1 ratio guns to people. Not every American is a gunowner and I can see why. Some if us have 20 or more guns each. Probably only a couple million gun owners and lots of people with small armories for homes.

Anyway I can hardly wait until my new P7M13 arrives. :D

I have enough also, and now need to upgrade/customize what I have. For example, my Savage FP10 could use a new stock rather than the whippy plastic thing that it came with. I wouldn't mind a longer better looking stock for my SKS, either. My BHP needs good low profile fixed sights instead of the high adjustable target sights it has now. My Springer and Colt both could use tighter fitting bushings, and higher quality replacement extractors, as well as replacement of MIM parts. I sold my reloading stuff 25 years ago, and may want to get back into it. And then there's always ammo, no one can ever have too much.

Of course, I don't have a SA revolver, and I've been thinking about a Ruger Vaquero in .45 LC, and if I found another SKS at a decent price, I'd be crazy to pass it up. Also, the Mosins look like fun. Just can't decide on an M44 or 91/30??? But then, that would mean yet another caliber....:scrutiny:

There's a whole bunch of guns I want to get when money gets better. My problem is that, generally, it's the guns in the $1000 range that attract me (or at least $1000+ by the time I get done accessorizing them).

Right now the least expensive gun I'd want to get would be a decent FAL or G3 clone, which is still pushing a grand, unless I got a Century Arms gun. And that would be my "loaner" for a neighbor in case things got ugly in the neighborhood.

I'm trying to do the same. I have a couple of projects in the works which are put on hold whenever another great deal (or want) turns up. The one I hope gets done this year will be a #5 on an old model 357. It's a matter of sending the new sights which I 've worked on and off since December. Now if people would just stop listing guns for sale, I could get somewhere!

Now that would be very tempting, although I do know where a blue python with Serial number 250 lives, and it may just be for sale. But I am happy with my 70's python right now.

Now if a FA 1928 Thompson came around the bend at the right price, I would have a very short lived hiatus from buying.

I didn't waste time on that decision - ordered both as my first C&R purchase from Aztec Guns! I bought another 91/30 from Big 5 while waiting on the first two. Bought 2 crates of ammo from AIM. Fun fun fun! :D

One small suggestion: It is better to have a blued gun engraved and then nickel plated (if that's what you want), then going to the extra expense of having the nickel stripped, then have the gun engraved, and then plated again. You can have the engraver cut through the nickel, but in a short time it will start to peel and flake.

I was going through different guns pretty quickly too, trading, buying, trying to find ones I really liked. Then I finally switched to 1911s (which is strange considering they were the first ones I thought of years ago when I started wanting firearms) and now that I have a couple of 1911s, I'm no longer looking at buying. I think I'll upgrade the ones I have instead.
