All I know is that it was a stainless model revolver. Beautiful actually. I have no clue what caliber, but I just gotta know. Thanks. :D

I'm pretty sure that it was a stainless S&W, with adjustable sights, 2.5" barrel, and Hogue or Pachmayr grips. The gun LOOKED big enough to be a 686 L-frame, which would make it a .357 - unless Christian Slater's got tiny hands, in which case it'd be a K-frame 66. I think the barrel was underlugged, which would make it .357 instead of .38. By the same token, I don't remember the gun as being big enough to be an N-frame 627.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Taurus - I don't think that they were making adjustable-sighted snubs at the time the movie was made. Besides, the Smith's just look right, somehow...

Well, now I simply MUST get the Collector's Edition DVD of the movie, so I can find out for sure!

I think they used two different revolvers for some reason. In the beginning when he blows away Gary Oldman, it looks like a S&W 66. But in later scenes it looks like a 686.

Maybe the prop master just fell asleep at the switch.

Thats a big lookin hole on that thing in the poster.

Could it be a 625/624/629?

...and I take it all back. The gun used by Clarence Worley(Christian Slater) to scare the crap out of Bronson Pinchot in the hotel elevator is a S&W N-frame 625 in .45ACP, with a 3-inch underlugged barrel and pinned-on black front sight blade, and Packmayr "Gripper" stocks.

There are 2 different revo's in the film. The one he used to kill Gary Oldman is a S&W M-66 snub. Not positive about the latter one (in the elevator, etc), could be the 625. It looks like a snub 686, but it has a hammer mounted firing pin.

...the elevator gun is definitely a 625 - I freeze-framed my VHS copy of the movie at that scene, and it's got a huge gap between the front of the .45ACP-sized cylinder and the front of the .44Mag-sized frame window. BTW, the gap is diagnostic - it's MUCH bigger than the same dimension on my 686. The flick was made in 1992, which was just before S&W started transitioning from hammer-mounted firing pins to frame-mounted firing pins.

And just to show how much a gun-geek I am, I compared it to an old Massad Ayoob article touting the then-new 3" S&W 625's, and it was identical.

Sounds Like You did a positive ID on the 625 .I wonder what will be the first movie to use the NEW 625 PC revolver from Smith??

It has been awhile since I saw the movie, but if my memory serves me, it is actually a S&W 25 that was converted to a 2 1/2" barreled roundbutt by Mag-Na-Port Inc. . They used to (probably still do) do this conversion on any N Frame Smith and it was called their MiniMag Conversion. Check the Website or do a search for images. As I said guys...not claiming to be an authority here, but for several years before the movie came out, I was HOT for one of these guns and eventually came to have one. Very cool, very LARGE Snubbie.....The Smith and Wesson and Lew Horton guns...3" round butts in .45, .41,.44 Mag and Special pretty much took the conversion market away....I may be full of crap, but writing the response was fun...so indulge me a little....Zebulon:D

BTW....the snub that was used to dispatch Gary Oldham in the earlier part of the movie was indeedy a 2 1/2" 66.....Very Cool!...Zeb

Man, I'm losing it!...I failed to also say that the Model 25..(if that's actually what it was) being a blued gun, was also done in Metalife or Mag-Na-Ports' own proprietary finish...whatever that was, giving it a silver finish....Is'nt this interesting? Be kind you guys....Also notice in the closeups that his revolver has an inverted muzzle crown...One of THE absolutely Coolest mods you can have done to a revolver...again, a Mag-Na-Port Trademark. I think I'm finished now.....Zeb
