I need another set of boots while I send my black Radical 45 GTXs to be recrafted.
So, these:

They're both too low for me. My Danners are all at least 8-eyelet boots, but then I'm big into ankle support.
I'd go with the lower one: I like the moc toe, and I'm wearing a similar field set now.

Neither one. If you want boots that epitomize the true essence of Danner, you need a pair of Rainforests or Super Rainforest boots.. :p
[Taking into account your current logistics, your lack of proximity to a lush, green "bear-filled" forest (near SOCAL anyways), pick the pair that you deem most.. um, tactical. However tactical a brown boot can be..] ;)

Sorry, didn't know bears wore Danner boots?
What size boots do bears wear?
Thank you.

Skunk - I've never been impressed with the Striker/Terra Force series boots by Danner. IMHO they don't have enough support for true off-trail use.
If you want a tough 6" brown all-leather boot, have you looked at the Danner Explorer?
I just got a Danner discount deal email from the Danner people. I forwarded it to you at your hotmail email account - thought you might be able to use the discount.
cheers, erich

I think most bears start eating from your head and go down
So your boot choice won't matter much:neener:

If you want good support and durability and the ability to re-sole, get a serious boot like the Acadia or something similar by Danner.

This isn't for 'extreme use'...it's for metrotacticality; something tactical that can look pretty in the office environment :)

Gotcha. I dunno if I can help you. It's all a matter of personal preference but I wouldn't wear either of the above to the office. I tend to stick with conventional office wear like Rockports. Good luck!

If that's the case, what you listed should be fine.

Skunk,
I pretty much live on the range in a pair of these from DANNER....
Best All around footwear for outdoor use I've found. THey certain give plenty of support......but from your pics, you might not need boots that support as much as most folks:p

I keep forgetting to ask, but Nubuc = pleater right?

Pleater? Sorry, what does that mean?
If you mean "pleated pants", most of the periodicals I've read say that pleats are out this year. However, I find that pleats help conceal my handgun (in a pocket holster) -- I guess I'll have to buck the trend for at least this year.

Oops, meant 'pleather', i.e. plastic leather.

i'm pretty sure nubuc isn't pleather. the tag on my metrotactical boots says nubuc is a natural product which might "leak oils" which may be wiped off.
i've been very happy with my ECCO tracker II...and it is even goretex lined for crossing those raging raingutters and flooded parking lots. i wore them to china and the even work well in real third world dirt and mud :p

To quote a Danner Salesperson, "Nubuc leather is a full grain leather whose natural characteristics are enhanced by buffing the top layer. This lends to a velvety finish to the leather." :)

I ordered a pair of those same ones from www.reedssports.com the past weekend and they arrived first thing this morning ($139 delivered). Very comfy and the foot is well supported (ankle isn't). Typical Danner quality with great workmanship, (real :) ) high quality leather that is uniform in color and texture, heavy stitching that is doubled up where it should be.
Danner's D width on this boot seems to be a bit narrower than expected; more of an observation than problem and that will probably resolve itself with a bit more breakin.
Been wearing them all day with no tender spots: my feet are now kicking me for not buying these sooner.

Geez Skunk you asked about boots for SHTF and bears. For this particular contingincy there is none better than the Ft. Lewis Go-Devils.
