A good bolt gun in .308 w/wood and open sights?

The worst gun decision I ever made was selling my M1a.
I want to replace it with a good bolt action with open sights and decent wood.
I first considered a CZ 550 Lux, but evidently they are discontinued. the FS model looks OK, but I'm not sure about full stock models shifting POI.
Any suggestions?
Any Milsurp in .308?

How much are you looking to spend? Andrew Wyatt is organizing a group buy of newly manufactured Enfield rifles taking M1A mags and chambered in .308. Do a search under Tristar.

Looks like the 550 Lux has been discontinued, at least here. You may be able to special order it. As for the full stock version, I'll bet the barrel is still free floated. You'd have to check, but I'd be surprized if it was bedded.

Thanks fellas.
I don't mind spending up to $600-$800.
I was looking at those Tri Star Enfeilds. I do like the 'old military' look.
Any reviews or input on their quality?

Po2hammer: well, the shot show examples impressed me with their quality, and i don't impress easily.
no one in the Us has shot one yet, as they're scheduled to be in country late this month.

SOG has Spanish 1916 Mausers in 308 for $130. I have considered one, hope there are a few left when I have money again....

Just to state the obvious, many mfgrs make bolt guns with wood in .308.
Remington, Winchester, Ruger, etc. 'Course, they don't have that military look. They look like deer rifles.

Just to state the obvious, many mfgrs make bolt guns with wood in .308. I think he was looking for something with iron sights so that scratches off a lot of deer rifles.

Exactly Sactown.
I want/need something that will work in a downpour or a blizzard. I also enjoy target shooting with iron sights, sometimes shooting better offhand w/out scope.
The typical Win/Ruger/Rem's that do have open sights, have the worst stocks or cheap sights.
I've gotta locate one of those CZ 550 Lux models.
I have the 452 Lux in .22WMR and the sights are so good I took the scope off and really enjoy it.

I think all the Remington 788's had iron sights. At least all the ones I've seen. I don't have a .308 tho, mine is .22-250, scoped with irons.

Where? I've looked on their web site and don't see them.
I keep waffling between one of these and an Ishapore Enfield.

Buy a Spanish or Israeli Mauser in 308 and then get some Mojo Sights for them.
Comes in under $300, you are a happy camper, and your grandkids will appreciate the gun LONG after you're gone..

Ahem, have you ever heard of the Spanish FR-8?. A cult favorite, I have one, and not only is it accurate, reliable, and reasonably priced, but the cool factor is off the chart. I spend a lot of time at my range fielding questions about mine. Perhaps it's most endearing quality is it seems to actually like the 147 gr. FMJBT that can be purchased for a pittance at the gunshow. Check one out.
