I'm looking to get a new carry gun soon, a Sig 232 and with that, a new holster. I work in a kitchen, it's hot and I get really sweaty. What's the best material to protoect my gun? I have been using nylon but I'm sweating through it and my gun and mag have actually rusted some. Is leather safer for the finish? Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

Ron - I'll bet even outside of a kitchen ... I'll out-sweat you!!:)
IMO leather will not cut it if near enough to skin ... it'll soak up some sweat and i proved that when I carried my M85 snub in leather.
Nylon?? ... well - you've found that one out.
To be honest - and I know many people hate em .... it has to be Kydex/Fobus .... I used a Fobus paddle very successfully for my P95 .. still like the combination. Just happens now that I have gone stainless (for some while) with SP-101 and it sits well in belt slide, hi-ride, OWB.

Does stainless react slower to sweat?

Ron ... Stainless is of course not necessarily stainLESS .... maybe more stain RESISTANT. .. depending on the alloying and chrome content ... for most part tho S/S guns are pretty much corrosion-free.
Never use steel wool on these guns tho because fine particles of steel can embed in the surface and themselves rust.
A film coating of CLP, RIG grease etc ... will help prevent problems but .. even without - in my experience you'll not get rusting per se .... not like with a blued.
''React slower to sweat''?? .... well, not really ... it is as said very resistant to corrosion. I'd always suggest tho that if an S/S gun gas gotten sweat on it ... to wipe down anyways. It's just that in areas like edges of grips ... where sweat can creep under .. you'll not find serious damage if neglected - compared with blued.
I will now where possible only carry S/S .... the amount I sweat!

Well it is stainless, not stainproof.
I think Milt Sparks makes a holster that has a plastic barrier in between the layers of leather to help prevent soak thru. Can't tell you which model offhand tho.
As far as leather, IIRC horsehide is better than cowhide for sweat resistance.

Horsehide and properly finished cowhide will be close for moisture resistance........HH will always fair better in the long run over a cowhide holster that wasnt sealed properly.
Kydex is the best for moisture resistance.....but not always for comfort.
Shoot well..........

I vote horsehide. Repeals the sweat well.

Avoid Kydex and plastic linings. Synthetics will trap condensation. I recommend shell cordovan for sweat resistance. It is the least porous and most water repellent leather known to man, a vegetable-tanned subcutaneous layer that covers the rump of a horse. I have been very pleased with a shell cordovan shoulder holster from Josh Bulman (http://www.bulmangunleather.com/).

I sweat like a pig too and have found that leather will get wet and stay wet and your gun will rust. The rough out leather is the worst as it sucks up moisture like a sponge. Once the leather is wet, its aint drying out anytime soon either. Kydex keeps the gun dry and is much more comfortable if it gets against bare skin. I've never had any problem with condensation and the only part of the pistol that gets wet now is the grip panel. It also holds up better to hard use over a long time. I'm still using the same Blade Tech kydex IWB that I've worn daily for over 8+ years now. All that is really required for maintenance is to wipe the lint out of it once in awhile and maybe replace a belt loop now and again.
