My buddy has 30-06 semi auto reminton. It has a scope. And he is re-bluing for me. I dont know the model number. But he will sell it too me for $350.
We are going elk hunting out of state next fall. Is this enough gun? And should I buy it? I will make sure it shoots straight. Thanks HR....

Definitely need more details on the gun, but .30-06 180 or 220 grainers will do okay on elk with adequate bullet placement.

Stevo,
It is probably a Remington 742. Although it could be the older 740 or the newer 7400 or Model 4.
Some shoot quite well, but most show mediocre accuracy at best. If it has a good scope on it like a Leupold or Redfield, then I would say $350 is a fair price as long as everything works. If the scope is a cheapo, then $350 is way too much. I sold the last 742 I had a couple of years ago for $175 without a scope. It only shot 3" groups and as badly as I shoot, I want my rifles to shoot better than I do.
There is a thread here about 742's that you may want to read.
In the long run, I think you would be happier with a bolt action. But that is just my $.02 worth and YMMV.

Halffast's experience with the Remington 742's is identical to mine. 3" groups at 100 yards seems pretty typical.
