Well, it's a long story, but I bought this from a friend whose uncle had it for a very long time until his recent passing.

This is my first... er... 3/4 rifle.

It's a Winchester M1 Carbine, I don't know too much about the markings but most of them say "W".

There's actually a good story behind this one. Looking forward to any general information from those who have studied these weapons before. My site has a handful of images showing the markings - click for the high-res images.

I'm so excited!

Now I need a matching Winchester Garand.

You have gem there my firend. Enjoy it and take care of it. It sounds like you might have one that has mostly, if not all Winchester parts. This gun could be all original, which would increase its value greatly.

Mine was a single shot Ithaca .22. But then again I was only five years old.

Great carbine. Enjoy it!

dude: Thanks for the link to the BattleRifle site... one guy there told me:

It was made about July - Sept. 1944,,, From what I see it has the type 3 rear sight, type 2 barrel band, nice Winchester stock, recoil plate with correct xx screw. Winchester barrel.

Take the action from the stock and look at the trigger housing it should have a small "w" on the right side. The front sight might have a stamp but should be unmarked.

That it apart and check the markings on the bottom of the slide , on the bolt lug, and side of hammer.

Picked her up today, along with a cleaning kit and some soft point .30 carbine ammo.

Tomorrow I am having the carbine looked over by Ed Silva at MilTech Arms (http://www.miltecharms.com) before I let them fly.

The barrel looks new...

Below is a link to a digital movie (3.6 Megs - large download) of the firing, filmed by John Paul "Fitz" Jones.

Please be patient with the download - we throttle our bandwidth on this server - you may want to 'pause' playback until it has been completely downloaded, then play it:

Here are three stills showing the cycling of the carbine and the ejection of the case.

http://www.imageseek.com/sven/2003_02_22/m1_cycling.jpg

The frames cover 150 milliseconds of action.

The first frame shows ignition, the second frame has the bolt all the way back, and then last we are back into battery.

Hope you guys enjoy this, as well.
