Beretta Neos question

Hey, I've been lurking around here for a few months. It seems like a nice place, so I thought I'd finally register.

My question is for people who own or have fired the Beretta Neos. I've been researching it here and at rimfirecentral, but I'm getting conflicting reports. The most common negative reports I've seen have been about the grip angle and the trigger. I like the grip angle, so thats not an issue for me, but I've seen multiple posters say it has a "bad" trigger.

So for those who own one, is the trigger bad? How bad and what is meant by "bad"? Is it gritty or does it take 50 pounds of pressure or what? Also, please chime in if you own one and like it (I intend to get one for range use only). Thanks for the help.

Welcome to THR!:D

I've got one. The trigger did indeed suck at first. It felt "rough" or "gritty" as you said. Took a lot more pressure than it should have for a target pistol I thought. About 3000 rounds later, though, its a whole different animal. Trigger only takes a slight squeeze now and feels better.

I have had a 6" Inox version since late December 2003. It is excellent. The trigger for me was fine out of the box, and better now. It gauges out at about 4#, and is crisp. Dry firing does not hurt it, so if your retailer is willing, rack it and dry fire a few to see how it is for you.

I have about 4000 rounds through it and it just gets better and better. I added an inexpensive red dot and it is far more accurate than I am capable of being.

I bought it on the strength of some very positive reviews, and the clincher is how easy it is to field strip for cleaning. Add the integral Weaver rail and the carbine coming out "soon", what's not to like?

Sure, it is doofey looking. But it is a fine shooter.

I shot one this weekend, I don't know how many rounds have been fired through it so I can't say how it was out of the box, but at present the trigger is fine. I like the grip angle it imulates the grip of my Steyr which is the most natural pointing handgun I have picked up. The Neos is on my to get list.

For a single action trigger, I find the Neos has quite a bit of travel before breaking. I like a single action that has little travel and has a quick, light break. No, other than that, I like the Neos. Even my gun-hating wife shoots and and finds it pleasant to handle. I put a BSA red-dot scope on it and it pretty much shoots where that red-dot is lined up on.

The windage adjustment screw fell off quickly, and some more reports of that happening are on Rimfirecentral. But Beretta sent me a replacement quickly. Other than that, it doesn't jam, isn't picky about ammo, and tons of fun with a red dot sight. The angle doesn't bother me and the trigger isn't too bad, just a lot of travel for being single action. The carbine kit comes out soon too.

Like mine other than the extractor blew out at about 3500 rounds and it took a while to get the parts. I am not as accurate with mine as I am with other pistols--say, 1911s--but it's probably me. I came late to .22s.

You will not be disappointed if you get a Neos. It is a great little shooter, it puts a smile on your face. Mine is more accurate than I am, the trigger has really smoothed out after firing a few hundred rounds.

I have so far had no problems with the gun except that I wish I had someone to load mags for me so I wouldn't have to quit shooting.

I reviewed it for Women & Guns magazine not too long ago.

The trigger on the gun I received from the factory weighed in at 9 to 10 pounds, and there was a wide variation in pull weight (like about 2 pounds). It was also really gritty. We managed to smooth it out with a nice thick application of oil, but what it really needed was to be taken down and polished up a tiny bit to get rid of the burrs or whatever was inside it making it so gritty.

Because the trigger was so heavy and gritty, the gun wasn't as accurate as it had the potential to be, and that took some of the joy out of playing with it.

Now the important part:

I absolutely loved the gun otherwise. I like the basic design, I like the styling, I like the grip angle, I like the location of the magazine release, I like how attractive it is to young and novice shooters. This is a really fun, really cool, really nifty little toy and it is a good addition to your gun safe IF you have the time and inclination to fix the trigger a bit. Despite loving the gun, I wouldn't buy it if I didn't have the time and inclination to fix the trigger or hire someone to fix it.

If the sample I played with had belonged to me, I'd have taken it apart, cleaned up the trigger, and had a wonderful marvelous little gun for range work and plinking.

Welcome to The High Road !. Ive been waiting a while to be able to say that :). Just to let everyone know, Murnax is my younger brother. He's been lurking here for a while, already owns his first pistol(a bersa .380), and is looking into getting a .22 for range plinking when he turns 21 in october. We(I) already have a ruger bearcat and browning buckmark, and hes looking for something a little different for his first rimfire, that a red dot can be put on easily.
