I've eaten the meat of several moose, however only from one that wasn't made into some sort of sausage. This one in particular was a large bull from Northeastern Washington that a buddy of mine got. The taste was as close to beef as any game animal I've tasted. In fact, the ground meat was almost indistinguishable from beef hamburger. However, the meat was as tough as your shoe. Even the back straps when cooked rare were nearly inedible. Made excellent crock pot fare though. A picture of me holding the backstaps is included (if I did it right).

Wow... now those are some big tenderloins. One of those would make up about 4 backstraps of an Arkansas deer.

Moose is the closest thing I've had to beef, but alot of the meat is too lean for grilling. The too lean stuff you grind into burger, or try this one out. In the crockpot with a 12 ounce beer and a jar of pepper rings, juice and all, on low for 12 hours... yummy!

Academy Sports sells t-shirts with that same saying on them as well as other similar type t-shirts. Not really my style but I thought I'd pass it on. Their t-shirts are cheap too...usually 10 bucks or less.

Best darn meat I've ever eaten. Good as the best beef. Best when stewed long and tender. Not that anyone asked, but I rank 'em like this

Moose
Elk
Whitetail Venison
Buffalo (which to me is tough and almost tastless)

haven't yet tried mule deer, pronghorn or caribou (gonna fix that this year)

Smokemaker:
Eland is just like extremely lean beef, also. I found that if you mix your favorite marinade with an equal amount of olive oil and cover the steaks liberally with the mix just prior to grilling, they are great.

I am sure the same would apply to moose or any other lean game.

hps

Thanks hps1, I've got just two moose steaks left, and I'll have to try that soon.

My favorite wild game is black bear. The BB that I had was some of the most tender meat I have ever eaten. Very, very good stuff.

I've had mooseburgers, and they were every bit as tasty as beef.

Make a good stalk, so he doesn't know what hit him, and you'll put pronghorn on the top of your list.
