Wow, that is one sharp pilot - not only can he identify the source of the damage as a bullet hole - he knows the caliber by sight. What was the reporting pilot's name? Tom Diaz?

I was guessing CA before I got to the location section. Sometimes, you just get a feeling for where these stories originate. Thankfully, no one was injured.

Isn't the T-6 an old WW2 training craft? (low wing, 2 seat tandem, radial engine, etc)

IIRC, it was designed to be underpowered so as to simulate a battle loaded P-40 or equivalent.

Maybe the pilot has fallen prey to the histeria in Kali about the "evil .50 cal terrorist sniper rifles"

Since when does a 1/2" hole necessarily mean a .50cal?

It was a chunk of debris from the shuttle...

Didn't Sarah Brady buy her kid a .30-06 rifle? Hmmmm.....

I'm leaning more towards a .45-70 or such going skyward after hitting the berm. Pictures would be a good thing, too, as I doubt the hole is cookie-cutter clean (as would be needed to accurately determine caliber).
