You might not think this is directly firearms related, but I think it is entirely relevant as it reflects the drastic changes a society can make in just a short time. The language this reporter uses makes this guy look like a terrorist.

And by the way, the knife in question was a 5 pound display knife that would be very difficult to wield at all.

I feel sorry for the Aussies.

Deadly weapons cache seized
By Holly Lloyd-McDonald
May 19, 2004

A FRIGHTENING, multi-bladed knife destined for Melbourne's streets was among a cache of weapons seized by Customs yesterday.

Officers detected the 50cm knife during an X-ray of air cargo from the US at Sydney airport last month.

Bound for Melbourne, the four-pronged attack knife was found with a small arsenal including a sword stick, trench knives, a double-edged dagger and other knives.

The four-bladed knife has a silver-studded cuff wrapping around the wrist while the hand grasps the handle.

The handle is connected to two small flick-knife sized blades and two 25cm larger knives, with a total length of 50cm.

It is believed the knives were bought over the internet.

Victorian Customs regional director Jenny Peachey said buyers should not assume anything could be imported if bought on the internet.

"Knives and other weapons are restricted imports," Ms Peachey said. "A permit to import a restricted item can be applied for prior to importation."

Customs corporate spokesman Michael Carter said the matter had been investigated and no one would be prosecuted.

"In this instance, a warning has been issued," Mr Carter said.

"From now on they will be monitored for any incoming or outgoing cargo."

hhhhmmmmmm,,,, that picture looks to me like a skinning and gutting knife. The way it is used is to hide beside a bush, and have someone drive deer to you, then you jump in front of them with your arm straight towards them. ( The deer, not the drivers), when the stampeding deer tramples you the small blades skin him as the large blades gut him. Required safety equipment include a plywood silhouette in your size to protect you from the hooves, and a snorkle to avoid inhaling deer blood. Some eye protection should be considered, and a liberal dose of liquid painkiller should be administered before the hunt,,, 12 ounces of Bacardi 151 proof rum should be sufficient?

Not my prefferred method of saving skinning time, but "to each his own"?

When pointy things are outlawed, then only outlaws will have.... are the Australians aware of the existence of a nearby nation of nearly two hundred million people where everyone has a kris?

The language this reporter uses makes this guy look like a terrorist.

Actually it makes the reporter look like someone from a very sheltered, perhaps padded, room. "Attack knife"?

I guess we'll be seeing a crop of new movies soon: the Victim Dundee series, where a rugged Australian roams the bush being brutally beaten by koalas and wombats, until he finally succumbs to a vicious crocodile with "attack teeth" that were ordered over the Internet.

ksnecktieman, you must be a product safety lawyer.
