What mag extensions go with what length barrels on an 870?

An extension that adds two 2 3/4" shells to capacity will fit under an 18" barrel with a hair protruding.

An extension that adds three shells fits under a 20" barrel.

One that adds eighteen shells fits under a 76" barrel. If you can lift it, you da Man....

Seriously, most folks are best served with a two or three shot extension.

Unless you are an aesthetics nazi you can let an extension hang out 4 or more inches past the barrel too. Shot won't hit it, it's still in the cup. Of course you just defeated the purpose of having a short handy shotgun....:D

My one 870 has a +2 and an 18". The next is about to wear a 20-21" Vang and a +3 or 4.

The ads for extensions never say what barrel the "match" up with.

the choate 8 shot fits the 20" barrel and is flush with the muzzle end in an 870 express 12 gauge.

Hey, i had a machinist add an extension to my extension and it would hold 15 or so shells....i used it in one three gun match.....i screwed up a shotlgun stage that started with a barricade......i couldn't get that long mother around the barricade...but it worked like a champ...and really dampened recoil with all that weight.....D I C K
