Some of you may remember a thread I started a week or two ago about organizing a grassroots VCDL type organization for Georgia. We now have a website up and it can be accessed at www.gfodl.org We are in need of members and support. We need people to come up with some ideas on how to go about organizing this. This will not work unless we have support from the firearm owners in Georiga. Sure GA has the GSSF, but they are not enough, they have done nothing to help with the pro-CCW bills in the state legislature. We need people who are serious about getting involved in the legislative process and help us get laws changed and send a message to LEO's who might abuse their authority and disarm law abiding citizens. We can do it.

A good idea would be to compile an accurate compendum of Ga firearm laws and then render them in plain English. Packing.org is good for looking up individual laws, but there are contradictions to wade through, and having it all boiled down and translated would be a big help from a proactive standpoint.

Heck, I live in Kennesaw, so I'm glad to chip in however I can. Let me know what kind of help you need.

No I was not offended, put off would be a better word.

"We need people who are serious about getting involved in the legislative process and help us get laws changed and send a message to LEO's who might abuse their authority and disarm law abiding citizens. We can do it."

I am involved in the process, voting, contributing and trying to sway opinions, it of course disgust me to have to beg for what was initially given freely, but so be it...but the abuse of authority...man that got me..the president get's a blow job and lies about it...congress has enough golden parachute cord to hang an arabian shiek...and it's those dreaded LEO's with their misguided attempts to disarm the law abiding...not congress, not the political hacks that spew their own brand of oversight...but the LEO we must keep from abusing their authority...and just were did they find that authority...and it seems that my willingness to simply state me feelings, sarcastic or otherwise is not going to be allowed in our magical mystery tour group. Real Power is taken not given...anything you have to bagain for was never yours to begin with. Man I am getting to old for the ra-ra speach

my my aren't we putting the sin of spin on things. "Real Power is taken not given", but you're willing to beg for it? Do I sound like I am starting a bargaining campaign? If you are so righteous as you pretend to be in your speech, then why don't you email the VCDL your little rant since they just had defended two law abiding citizens from being illegally charged by an overzealous LEO. You don't think that kind of stuff happens in GA? You really need to get out more, and if you paid any attention to what I had posted, you would have known that a few misguided LEO's were not the only thing targeted in my sights.

Furthermore I had PMed you for you to elaborate to me as to why you made those banal remarks. I have as of yet to recieve a reply from you. And I will have you know sir, I am currently persuing a career as a deputy sheriff and even though 98% of my fellow peers are pro-rkba, there are the few that are not and would like nothing more than to remove from the hands of law abiding citizens any means of self-defense. These few must be educated and shown that the right to keep and bear arms is an individual American right that secures the inalienable human right to self-defense. Take a chill pill and let me know:rolleyes:

Banal remarks...defined as trite..defined as common...not how you intended...pursuing a career..well does that mean you are a LEO or not...?

Hello ICP,

I remember you from packing.org and e-mailed you a couple of times a couple of years back about GA CCW. You were the guy that was almost arrested for open carrying at McCrappies right?

Anyway, I think the CCW reform bills are being killed in the house judiciary committee. I remember looking up certain pro CCW bills, and the few cosponsors they had were all republican and they were all in the committee. I think the committee has 9 people and the other 5 or 6 were democrats and not co-sponsors of the bills.

An idea is to get in touch with the co-sponsors of the pro CCW bills and ask them about the committee votes and such. If we can find out who is stopping the bills from reaching the floor, then we can find out who to contact. Same thing goes for the senate.

You were the guy that was almost arrested for open carrying at McCrappies right?

:uhoh: Yeah that was me two years ago as a matter of fact. And to think I had put in a application with that agency and "joe saxon" wonders why I believe we need to educate the un informed LEOs.

Anyway myself and a couple of packing.org members have banded together and started up a website. We are trying to get a grassroots CCW organization started and could use as many member as we can get. The person that keeps killing the bills in committee is the chairman Curtis Jenkins. He simply will not let the bills out on to the floor to be voted on. Bobby Franklin, who co-sponsors the bills, has tried many times to get the bills "engrossed" which would keep from any changes being put on the bill and also require it to get on the floor to be voted on. Curtis Jenkins is pulling a stonewall jackson and he needs to be stopped. So come next legislative session that is the person we need to "attack" with emails, calls, and visits and if he decides to ignore us then come election time we replace him with someone that will listen. Welcome aboard NRAninja.

Guess where my vote lies. I attacked your credibilty, hardly you have no credibilty with me, for me to attack. My comments are mine, defining them is something I chose to do when compelled. You seem to have a problem with anyone who would disagree with you.

Rant, sir it would serve no purpose, I have neither the time nor inclination to explain myself to you. Charade, what a chararcter.

I think a relatively few uninformed LEO's are the least of our problems. I'm with Joe - stick to the legislative processes and the rest will change as the environment changes.

Your reference to LEO's seemed pretty clearly to be a result of your isolated incident.

Joe Saxon,

Rant, sir it would serve no purpose,

There you go again with putting the sin of spin on things. You are the one ranting because I simply said "We need people who are serious about getting involved in the legislative process and help us get laws changed and send a message to LEO's who might abuse their authority and disarm law abiding citizens. We can do it."

Now, where in my comment do you see me SPECIFICALLY singling out LEO's? Nowhere. Was my comment not PC enough for you? Well I am happy to dissapoint you because I do not speak in PC terms. And before you say it, let me say it for you "message to LEO's who might abuse their authority".. Key word.. "might" implying that not every LEO will overstep their bounds to enforce their own personal agenda. But there are the few who do. No legislative process is going to change that. They have to be shown that law abiding citizens have as much right to carry for means of self defense as they do.

Further more if you had read my ENTIRE post instead of picking it apart piece by piece and ranting about the one sentence, you would have known that my agenda is about getting involved in the legislative process in addition to changing LEO attitude towards RTC. Unfortunately we have 2 bracnhes of government to deal with, the legislative and judicial. I would like to think that by changing one you can change the other, but some how I think they both are going to have to be changed seperately.

I attacked your credibilty, hardly you have no credibilty with me, for me to attack

Taking more cheap shots again. I have answered your question and I really don't give a rat's ass whether or not you believe me, so you can take it or leave it.

You seem to have a problem with anyone who would disagree with you.

No sir, I have a problem with people who come across like a smart ass for no particular reason.

I have neither the time nor inclination to explain myself to you

Explain yourself? You more or less beated around the bush. But if acting like a pompous arse is your way of explaining yourself, then so be it.

Hawkeye,
I think a relatively few uninformed LEO's are the least of our problems. I'm with Joe - stick to the legislative processes and the rest will change as the environment changes.

I am compelled to agree, but let me ask you this my friend. If changing the legislative process will change the rest, the how come with the states that have enacted RTC legislation we have incident after incident of a law abiding citizen being stopped, disarmed, and hassled about carrying a firearm? Now granted it is not a widespread problem, but I don't believe it is as isolated as you may think, especially here in GA. Just last year there was a guy that was hassled for openly carrying and threatened with arrest and he was doing nothing wrong. What about the gentlemen who was arrested at the Locust Gorve mall 2 years ago because the LEO said he was carrying to a public gathering? It is not as isolated as you think my friend.

Greetings All,
This thread seems to have been hijacked for a personal discussion of individual views. As Leatherneck said, this is The High Road.

ICP_jugggalo, check your PM

joe saxon, take it easy. Don't blow a gasket. We all can get excited about our rights and liberties being infringed upon or misinterpreted by the local authorities. That is one of the reasons this forum was created.

To both of you, Welcome. The folks here at THR are as committed as you are. Let's work together. :)

Best,

Doug Burchfield

I am a Sergeant with a Police department. I am a Ga. POST certified General Instructor as well as a Ga. POST certified Firearms Instructor. I have cross trained with the Drug Enforcement Agency as well as the United States Secret Service. I have served on more than a few task forces' and after having served for years on a special response team, now act as their primary hostage negoitiator. I currently teach at several local regional police academys and at time have served as a adjucnt instructor at GPSTC in everything from High Risk Warrants to Ethics. I have been a certified state officer since 1989, I guess it just got to me a litttle when I noted the "LEO might abuse their authority",from a guy who says he's a deputy sheriff but not certified, Ga. POST council has some pretty straight forward language about who is and who is not certified and can claim the title of Peace Officer.

My initial comment simply stated I was interested until the LE comments. I am I believe intitled to my opinion in this matter. Read each post, if you feel that I was rude or acted in a matter not becoming then to you all I offer my apologies. I would support any organization that would place more firearms in the hands of responsible, intelligent citizens. Emphasis on responsible and intelligent, Police officers are responsible to the public they serve, they are not a legislative body and do not put forward public policy, the elected officials are those responsible for the mandates put forward and the courts that provide case law. Do abuses occurr of course that is the nature of ANY profession. Mistakes get made at all levels of government "sin of Spin" not withstanding. Officers are daily tasked with challenges that are not 9-5, we are hammered by legislative and judicial forces , you cannot imagine, we are expected to be all things to all people and while not whinning the job can be a little dangerous. So if we get a little jumpy about your gun, and you get a little pissed about the results, sorry. Yes I am familiar with vagueness of Ga. Law, but I didn't write it, and sine I do not get to chose the laws that I am sworn to enforce and uphold, I have to deal with it.

To ICP you have my PM. To all the others I again apologize for any comments you deem to have been rude or innapropriate.

Joe Saxon,

First off, reply has been sent in response to your PM. Second, no one said you were not entitled to your opinion. I simply wanted to know why you was put off by the statement I made. Based on your credentials you sound like a hero and a very important person and no I am not patronizing you. I would be very honored to have you as my instructor when I eventually make it to POST. Now putting that aside for the moment.... I asked you to elaborate for me what is it was that upset you, instead you got heated and fired rant after rant. Maybe that was your way of saying your opinion and maybe I misunderstood your opinion as a rant. I am not passive aggressive, when someone fires heat at me I will return the favor. One of my pet peeves is when one person talks to another like they are human garbage, not implying that you were, but I did feel as if you were implying I was inferior to you. There is no reason why anyone can't be civil towards another..so what I am trying to say is that I will treat and talk with a person in the same manner they treat and talk with me. Does that mean I was right for making that statement, probably not, but I was not stereotyping or generalizing. You said it yourself Mr. Saxon, there are a few bad apples amongst outstanding majority of LEO's. What is wrong with having these few misguided LEO's turned around? Sure you will still have the one who will push their own personal aganda, but who is to say they can't be changed? Yes the legislature is responsible for 99% of the problem I totally agree. But that remaining 1% that is the misguided LEO's can put a heavy burden on some people and if that 1% can be turned around, then that turns out to be an important ally that can get things chaged on a legislative level even more so that what a civilian can do. Who do you think the majority of the legislature is going to listen to first? LEO's or civillians? I would like to say civillians since we give them their jobs, but I am going to go with LEO's on this one. SO if we don't have 100% of LEO support, it will make our cause even more difficult when it comes to the legislative process.

So if I do call out upon the few misguided LEO's why should you get upset? You're not one of them are you? If anything I would hope that you would be encouraging your fellow peers to be more open minded about about civillian RTC. I mean after all you are here... on The High Road....

Johnr,

Welcome aboard brother, We are still trying to get some of the bugs worked out. Hopefully we will have the site fully finctional in a couple of weeks. Right now we are working on a plain english version of the law to help clear up any of the vagueness.
