Shoulder rig advice

I need a gift idea for fathers day. My uncle(who is like a father to me) carries a Para P14. Right now he carries in a side holster but mentioned that sometimes it gets in the way or is heavy to have on his belt and so forth. So I'd like to see about getting him a shoulder rig to try out.

He is a big guy, heavy set with broad shoulders, so it would have to be something that is adjustable/large. Any suggestions?

I have a slight ulterior motive since I'm currently saving to get my first 1911 and I'm also interested in a shoulder rig. I'd like to see what he thinks before I drop money on one for myself.

Any ideas?

Bianchi X15 is good. Uncle Mike also makes a black nylon shoulder holster rig that works well. HTH

The best will cost you. Every one has to get at least one shoulder rig... even though they soon find outthe aren't too convenient and are sort of a hassle. (unless hunting) If this is for concealed carry, there is no substitute (in my humble opinion) for a good IWB or high holster.

Despite all that get a good leather holster. It will cost you, but the leather molds better and aren't as prone to "slop" of the harness straps. Much more comfortable and alot less floppiness. Don't get the horizontal if it is for ccw I have never been able to properly conceal with one of those. the vertical is a slower draw but hides better.

My .02$

I always liked the verticle better anyway. Something about the gun sweeping everyone behind you is a little odd to me.

The Bianchi X15 looks really nice.

I've heard nothing but praise for the Alessi Bodyguard here, but I have no personal experience with that rig.

I like Galco Miami classic. May be a bit thin though for the P14.

I have a bodyguard (2 actually).....I sure wish someone had given me one as a gift......it sure would be great to rip off the wrapping and find one of these inside....

i think alessi makes the two best shoulder holsters in their own genre. the bodyguard in the horizontal carry really gives the fastest presentaion, while the fieldmaster carries long barreled pieces vertically and pivots for the smoothest presentation in the field.

The Alessi Bodyguard has no retention strap or did you get one that was made custom without one? I wouldn't feel too comfortable carrying in a shoulder rig without a strap...

Or is that little thing there in the trigger guard the "strap"?

That is a pull through snap and it is very secure....no thumb breaks to fumble with....but if you carry cocked and locked and like leather over your hammer, I'm pretty sure Lou can make the snap pull through over your firing pin or put a traditional thumb breeak on it....he's pretty much a genious with leather and will work with your needs....the mag pouches can also be had in hard molded leather to match the holster but I opted for the softer leather for more comfort....here's another pic of the snap on my other rig...
