The Minneapolis College of Art and Design is putting on an "Gun Violence Awareness" art exhibition titiled "Banned on these Premises".

Sponsored by Citizens for a Safer Minnesota.

Info is here: http://students.mcad.edu/~ylor/gunviolenceartshow/

I was wondering if Oleg might be interested in submitting some of his photos...

Why do I have the feeling that anything that Oleg contributed would most assuredly result in head explosions among the Citizens for a Safer Minnesota :barf:

Might be fun for him to offer a couple of things, get rejected as an unenlightened troglodyte and threaten legal action for discrimination.

And that's my Alma Mater, no less! I'll investigate.

I can provide them with a CD-ROM slide show, a poem and a poster...but I am a bit curious as to the intellectual honesty of that crowd.

Will you allow art that defends the 2nd amendment to be represented at your art show?

sent the above as an email to the contact person. I am awaiting results.

I really want to ask her next what about my first amendment rights?

Ask her why she assumes that only banning guns is an answer to gun violence.

A better approach may be calling the college itself and suggesting equal time, in the interests of intellectual honesty. That said, my memories of the administration of that college are quite unfavorable in that regard.

I work for a university and I know that trying to deal with equal time is quite a pain in the a$$. They allow the left wingers (counter culture) to do what ever they want. (I'm searching for a description but at a loss for words) For example if Heston came to campus to give a talk on gun rights they would have no problem with a counter arguer (like Michael Moore) to go ape crap against everthing that person (like Heston) says.

But if a left winger was coming to make a speech or some stupid interpretive dance on something rediculous they just won't allow a right minded person to express their views. :banghead:

The more I hear univeristies called liberal hotbeds or breeding grounds the more I believe it. Its hard being a conservative working here.

So your organization truely believes that the problem will be solved by being one sided? You should open your show to all points of view regarding firearms. There are many household with children where there are firearms present and there will never be an incident of firearm violence.

This happens becuase the parents will teach the children right and wrong with a firearm. The child will know the power a firearm has and the destructive potential if used improperly. Why don't you have a art show that represents proper parenting?

People feel that a outright ban on firearms is the solution. If this would happen do you really think that the criminal will not be able to aquire a firearm. Cocaine has been illegal for several decades, perhaps almost a century, people still sell it, use it and commit more crimes to get it.

Open to all artists in any stage of their career living in Minnesota. Youths and artists of different backgrounds are encouraged to submit.

That sounds like our Oleg.

Good idea. Maybe you should coordinate your own show. I'd love to come
see it when it happens.

Thanks for your interest. I do invite you to the opening of this show.
It'll rock your world. I'll put you on our mailing list.

Here's my email exchange with her (him?) My attached files were some Oleg-like photoshopping. I followed up with a response asking if they actually had still photos of guns committing violence...did the guns become sentient beings, have arms and legs, etc. We'll see if a response comes back...if nothing else, it's wasting his/her time and entertaining me.

Thank you for your interest in the show. You are welcome to waste your
time and energy submitting artwork concerning your pro thoughts on
guns. I do recommend that you include a SASE with enough postage if you
would like your materials returned. This is an art exhibition based
primarily on violence caused by guns. Yet, I still encourage you to
make art. Maybe you could hire me to curate your art show, too.

Otherwise, please direct all future inquiries to csm@endgunviolence.com
. Again, thanks for your interest. I do invite you to the opening of
the show. It'll rock your world. I'll put you on our mailing list.

Love, Yeng.

Does that mean they won't use the art? Or does it just mean that it would be a wasted effort in light of all the anti gun art that will be there? If they will show it, every little bit helps...
