You get what you pay for...usually. I bought a katana in WWII military mounts from a veteran in 1981 or 1982 for $200. He was a platoon leader in the invasion of the Phillipines and was a member of the early occupation force of Japan. I told him at the time that I was no expert but I thought this was an old blade. The blade was later appraised as being made in 1590.
He also had a signed, handmade in the 1930's, modern blade with a Japanese Colonel's tassel. He was responsible for the deactivation of a Japanese arsenal. When the order came down to give up all swords, the colonel who had been the CO of the arsenal gave the sword to him instead of placing it in a surrender barrel. Unfortunately, when he was finally ready to sell it and a tanto he had...I was bereft of funds. That collector that advertises everywhere, I forget his name, bought both for $800.

Am I the only evil bastard who replays that video over and over and over again and laughs each time?

The link doesn't go to any particular video, but I'm sure I know which one it is - the QVC sword that breaks and stabs the spokesman. Laugh hard every time I see it - I love that video - what you get for peddling junk and trying to pass it off as quality. The reality is you buy ANYTHING off of ANY home shopping channel, I would say you are a sucker.
For a mere $180-$250, you can get a GOOD working blade from Musashi or Cheness.
Hey, I think we need a new thread with poll asking which is the funniest/best video:
1. QVC guys get stuck with katana, or
2. "I'm the only one in this room professional enough to....." Bang!
