Can anyone tell me where holster makers buy the aluminum dummies that that they use to mold holsters for handguns? How much do they cost?

The most common one that is used is a company called, Duncan Outdoors, and they’re located in Bay City, Michigan. Their phone number is 989-894-6691. Ask for Pat in the “dummy gun” section. She’ll help you out and gets the guns out pretty quickly (if they’re in stock). The price is $40 per gun, $12 per mag, plus shipping. Another source is the gun manufacturer themselves. Some have non-functioning versions of their guns available for holster makers. If they don’t have dummy versions, some will “loan” you a genuine version for a period of time, usually 30-60 days, that you can use to make as many holsters as you can in that period and then send the gun back. Oftentimes they’ll give you the option to purchase as well.

K man nailed it.....you can also use the Blue and Red training guns with great results if your making leather products. They wont take a press for long and if youre doing Kydex......dont even bother...they will soften too quickly from what I hear.
The molds Ive gotten from Duncan as of the last 6 months havent been very good and require ALOT of clean up............just a note.
Shoot well.

The last few dummies that I've purchased from Duncan have just plain sucked. I waited something like a year for an ambi 4" 1911, cocked and locked. (They usually make them hammer down, safety off - who the hell carries a 1911 that way, anyhow?)
After calling them repeatedly about this particular weapon, they finally tell me that there is no such thing as a 4" 1911 - that they are only made in 3", 3.5", 4.25" and 5". My reply was that Kimber certainly makes one. Their response? "Kimbers aren't 1911's - 1911's are made by Colt. Kimbers are made by Kimber." So, I find out that the 4" 1911 (in this case a Kimber) that I've been waiting about a year for was there in stock the whole time. They shipped it to me and man! What a POS!. It's totally unuseable.
If there are ANY other sources for aluminum dummy guns, PLEASE let me know! Thanks!
PS They informed my wife today that their prices are going up. That would not be a problem if they made a product that I could actually use.

Ok guys,
I recieved my MK9/40 pattern yesterday evening...I am not impressed...on both sides of the slide, there is a casting line (kinda like someone took a dremel to each side of it)...If I were to try and use it as is, I would have 2 lines running on each side of the holster...I did call a friend of mine to see if he could wield them up for me...Even with him doing it at cost I am going to have right at $60 in this thing...:barf:
I was gonna order three more "patterns" this week...Doubt that I will now, after seeing this one...
BTW...Stellarrigs makes the plastic ones for certain pistols...
