While browsing this very interesting site (http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/Russguns.html), I came across this description of a Russian "revolver shotgun":the remarkable 12.3mm UDAR double-action revolver shotgun. The size of a compact medium-bore revolver, with a weight of 0.92kg and dimensions of l73x136x44mm, the UDAR holds five rounds of a cartridge claimed to be based on a 32-gauge shotgun case, although this is slightly puzzling as the 32-gauge has a calibre of 13.36mm. The ammunition available includes a jacketed lead bullet for maximum stopping power, an AP bullet capable of penetrating 6mm of steel plate, various shot loads, a "shock" cartridge with enhanced noise/blinding effect, spray irritant loads, a rubber bullet for anti-riot use and a paint marker for training. I can't help thinking that our police forces might find this a very useful gadget...I've attached a photograph of the weapon. Has anyone seen any further information about this handgun? Sounds fascinating...

Preacherman, if you can get ahold of a copy of Russian Small Arms by Charles Cutshaw it will give you some information about the Udar, and its competitor the Gnom. (you have got to love Russian gun names) :)

I think it's a cool looking gun. Kinda futuristic. Wonder what the recoil would be like?

Is that a moon clip I see below the gun? If so, it's a cool concept.

Yeah, the gun IS odd looking, but don't judge it too harshly before you shoot it. Maybe there's a reason for its styling. Heck, I remember my first reaction to seeing a Glock. But now that I am the proud owner of a Glock 26, I've come to see their beauty.

Finally a revolver bigger than a New Service Colt!

We came a cross the Udar back at TFL.. looks like a "Modern" horse pistol. I doubt it could be imported to the US, though supposedly smooth bore guns are allowed to be owned by private citizens in Russia, (after a mental health evaluation and a criminal background check.) That means the Udar could very well be a solution to the way Russia's gun laws are designed, rather than a solution to a specific tactical need.

It looks odd, but it seems way better engineered than the Thunder Five.

Probably kicks like a mule. I want one!

It needs a folding fore-grip, laser, red dot-sight and two ammo bearers and aspirins for the entire gun crew.;)
