How many of you really know who your state and federal Represenative and Senator is. No cheating by looking it up and be honest. I want the answer of the top of your head.

Sorry guys, I goofed up. I wanted it set up for multiple answers, so maybe a Moderator can help me out and fix this poll.

My State Rep is Billy Dalto (R), first member of Hispanic descent in the Oregon Legislature that I am aware of.

My State Senator is Peter Courtney (D) a fiscally prudent social liberal. (I live in the state capital where gubmint is the biggest employer.)

My US Rep. is Darlene Hooley (D-5) who has never met a gun control bill she didn't like. We had an R in there until he fobbed off on his wife of 20+ years and shacked up with his overpaid 20 something chief of staff and got punished at the polls, (MORON).

My two US Senators are Ron Wyden (D) and Gordon Smith (R) Wyden is an ultraliberal from Portland and Smith is a fairly reliable conservative frozen food magnate/multi-millionaire from the rural east side of the state. I'd kick Wyden in a minute if we could muster a decent candidate against him.

We had a Libertarian, Tom Cox, win 50,000+ votes in the last race for governor. That equated to about 5+% of votes cast IIRC. I voted for him, my first vote for a Lib. The R was a former D with a penchant for unfunded prison and crime mandates, and the D is a career governmental employee, (Legislator, AG, Supreme Court Justice, Governor), who oddly enough has vowed to not raise taxes.

Wow, I'm glad I read the body of your post carefully because I was about to answer what your poll asks, "do you know your..." and not "do you know who your...".

In answer to the second, of course. In answer to the first, while not good friends or on a first name basis I've met one of my Congressmen on several occasions- with other members of the Concord Coalition to make him aware of our concerns about the budget, several times during political events and a couple times at parties (the after the election victory parties), at Jewish events, etc. He doesn't know my name but he does recognize my face. I've met on several occasions and had converstations w/ a former County Executive. At political events I've also met our former governor, our current governor and various state reps, senators, Congressmen and local federal Senators. I also grew up knowing one state Representative personally (and knowing her, I REFUSED to even think about voting for her).

Yup, I've been pretty active politically in the past and through that activity I've met several politicians and some are even at the level of being an acquaintance.

Yes. All of the above.

My state Senator is Byron 'Gun-grabber' Sher. :cuss:
My state assemblyman is Manny 'Gun-grabber' Diaz. :cuss:
My congressman is Mike 'Gun-grabber, but I have my own sporting clays shotgun' Honda. :cuss:
My senators are Diane 'Gun-grabber, and I like the Chicoms' Feinswine and Barbara 'Gun-grabber, and I write bouncing checks' Boxer. :cuss: :cuss:

I did not vote for any one of them neither. :banghead:

3 out of 4 by name, one by face. Of course none of them know me by face or probably name, but I'm sure if I ran into them on the street I would get a smarmy smile with a "I'm your best buddy" slap on the shoulder.

Oh yeah, I have 2 fed senators. Make that 4 out of 5 (or perhaps 3.5 seeing as how I couldn't remember that we had two  )

Sorry cobb, but it appears that the poll can't be changed to multiple choice after it has been submitted. If you wish, we can close this one and you can start a new poll thread of the correct type.

(If you do, you might want check the spelling of representative. ;) )

Thanks Mal H, but I think the damage has already been done, including my inept spelling. :uhoh:

State Rep = Lindsay Harrington. Good man.

State Sens = ?

US Rep = Porter Goss. Ambivalent about him, but looking around the Congress, I guess I should feel lucky.

US Sens = Graham and Nelson. Nincompoops.

don't know any of my state reps or senators. To be fair, I just moved three months ago.

the state reps for my district are Ron Paul (!) and some other dude.

I believe the current state senators for TX are Kay Bailey Hutchinson and John Cormyn. I voted for Cormyn, over Ron Kirk, because Kirk seemed like a typical liberal moron. Cormyn is a typical conservative moron, but given those choices I'll usually lean towards the conservative.

I typically vote Libertarian (except in specific cases where the L candidate is a loon, or there is a major party candidate who is very pro-freedom) in state/local elections.

Fed congressman: Paul Ryan; good conservative.

Fed senators: Herb Kohl and Russ "toss out the 1st Amendment" Feingold. Both are beyond useless.

State representative: Peggy Krusick. Stand close to her and you can hear the wind blowing between her ears. I once tried to get her to look at the facts when an "assault weapon" ban was being considered. She told me that her father was a police officer and she knew everything about guns and didn't need any information.

State senator: Tim Carpenter, another useless anti. Prior to redistricting, I had the very good Senator Ted Kanavas to represent me.

My U.S. senators are Lamar Alexander (R), and Dr. Bill Frist (R), Senate Majority Leader.

My U.S. Representative is John J. Duncan (R).

Ben Campbell and Wayne Allard (U.S. Senate)

Marilyn Musgrave (U.S. House)

Dave Owen (state senate)

Tambor Williams (state house)

Didn't have to look, either!

Musgrave knows me on sight, and I contact her office fairly regularly. Owen knows who I am.

The rest are as unwise as to my existence.
