I haven't shot in about 6 weeks(been very sick) and today I went to the range....it showed that I havn't been shooting for a while...my groups were all over the place..I went from shooting IDPA every week to a month and a half lay off..does anybody else find that they need to shoot alot to keep up your skill level.?..the only other thing I can compare it to ,was when I took a year off from playing drums..I almost had to start from scratch....no more lay offs for me if I can help it..:(

My basic skills seem to hold pretty well. I picked up my Smith M18 after not shooting it for months and made a tight group at 50 feet strong hand.

Since I haven't shot a bowling pin match for a while, I know I couldn't shoot my old times. Specialized skills degrade faster than the more universal ones.

Tony, here's where you count your blessings; You were able to make it back to the range. Just enjoy it for a while. Shooting's like falling off a bicycle; once you learn how, you never forget, though you may get out of practice sometimes. ;)

Coming off a sickness can be worse than just having not shot for a period of time. Your muscle tone can really be affected as well as yor ability to withstand the muzzle blast and muzzle flip. Practice safe dryfiring and that will help you get back to form quicker!!

Oh yeah. I had a two month lay-off and went from being hot stuff (in my own mind, anyway) to not hitting the broad side of a barn. I finally got back to an acceptable level last weekend after about five separate trips to the range. Keep at it, you'll get there.

I shot every day when I worked at the range, and now it's once every three months - and the groups definately show it....:(

Ditto, I tried to do some grouping at 7 yrds using the orange circle grid target. The circle is about, hmm... a foot across or so. I completely miss the orange grid at 7 yards?!?!!!

Well it was towards the end of the shooting session and maybe I was getting tired :p :o

Oddly enough, I had 3 shots left, and drew the orange grid target all the way to the back at 25 yrds and hit inside the orange 2/3 of the time. But yet I couldnt' hit it at 7 yards. Hmmm.... :scrutiny:
