I have lots of buck shot and slugs stored for the if the big shtf ever happens, some are about 5 years old what is the life on shotgun ammo?

Keep it dry and cool, no worries if you do. If it is hot and humid it may already be degraded. Corrosion is the number one enemy.

Should be good almost indefinitely. I've got a couple boxes of 12ga high-brass Winchester shells from the early '50s. Last year, I shot a box of them, and didn't have a single one that didn't work. All of these had been stored in a cardboard box, deep in my folks musty (sometimes damp) basement.

Kept dry and cool, it'll outlast all of us. Ammo is wonderfully durable.
While we're on the subject, some of us have truck, tractor or barn guns that sometimes experience temperature extremes.Ammo kept with these should be changed frequently. Shotgun ammo that's been cycled through 100 degrees plus to below freezing a few times will still fire, but velocity and performance will be degraded.
