Comments on CZ 550 American?

Does anyone have experience with the CZ 550 American? I'm thinking about getting one in .30-06, but have only seen a picture of them on the CZ web site.

How do they compare to the Pre-64 Win 70? Are they better than a Ruger M77 II?

Why do I keep hearing the term pre 64? Is that like pre 1964? I'm really showing off my ignorance here.

I looked at a Cz rifle the other day ,Im not sure if it was a 550 but it had an external detachable mag an a single set trigger and the bolt had a Mauser style extractor. It seem well made and the asking price was reasonable.

I have the CZ550 Safari Magnum which is set up for the 375 H&H. It is a lot more for the money than any Rem/Rug/Win I have checked. I think they are a smoking deal. HTH
