I stopped by Wally World this morning to pick up some 12 gauge and 9mm ammo, and happened to stop by the clearance section in sporting goods. All of the turkey hunting equipment was discounted, most of it at least 50% the original price. I picked up a Knight and Hale slate call for $8.50 and a couple of diaphagm calls for only $3. All the way home I practiced with the call to no avail, but finally figured out how to make the most basic sound by simply modifying a raspy gutteral "chick" sound from the back of my throat. I've just been sitting her practicing different sounds, imitating ones from the internet for about the past hour. Well, my chest is heaving from the constant exhalation and my bottom lip is dripping with drool, but I believe I can say "I can work a diaphagm call!"
Now I simply need to practice making noises that actually sound like turkeys. :p
