What I want to know is how many of you carry a 1911?

When Sapperleader gets me the holster I'm buying from him, the full-sized will get some carry time too.

June 22, 2004, 02:52 PM
Full-size Springfield, OWB, all the time.

June 22, 2004, 03:02 PM
I carry a 1911 occasionally, mostly during the non-summer months.

Holster is a Milt Sparks Summer Special II. Ammo is Remington 230g Golden Sabers.

June 22, 2004, 03:21 PM
I carry an SA Champion "loaded", a full-sized 1911 A-1, or a Para C7.45 depending on clothing options for my "social" situation that day.

All of them ride in the same rig whether it's a Sparks VM-II or Wild Bill's NSA that's on-deck. During the hot months I rotate them to allow drying time, as I perspire a good deal now that I've reached my dotage:rolleyes:

June 22, 2004, 03:36 PM
Springfield stainless loaded model. Full size. In a Be Secure bellyband every day.

Kimber/Bul poly. Full size. In a Rosen pancake whenever I can wear an outer garment.

Colt 1991A1 Compact.

June 22, 2004, 04:38 PM
I carry a Kimber Pro Carry Stainless (4" Stainless with alum frame) in a VMII. All day every day.

I wouldn't have any problems carrying a full size 1911, the length of the slide doesn't any real difference if you are carrying IWB, the handle is the only part that is visible and distinguishable, and if you have a good holster and a thick gun belt the weigh isn't that bad at all.

I have been carrying my fullsize Springfield Loaded quite a bit lately. IWB in a custom HBE holster. I don't mind the larger gun.
I also carry a Makarov and a CZ P-01 from time to time.

June 22, 2004, 07:38 PM
Me too.

Full size Kimber Classic in a Sparks SSII.

June 22, 2004, 07:52 PM
All day, every day, a 5 inch steel 1911..

June 22, 2004, 10:41 PM
5" steel 1911 almost all of the time (varying brands), Brown Kobra Carry if I need something smaller (I carry OWB), or a Colt XSE LW Commander when it gets really hot.

June 23, 2004, 06:04 AM
I have been alternating between a springfield loaded government model, a star bm(1911 clone), and my springfield xd(grip angle same as 1911). I also will start carrying my browning hp this fall after i get some work done on it.

June 23, 2004, 08:17 AM
Mostly I carry a Colt CCO on duty and off..before I carried a Colt LW Officer's. A Commander and a trusted Government round out the carry collection. The Government is still a fave second only to the CCO for daily carry.
I prefer the Versamax for a CCW holster, though have a belt slide and a few other's that see service some.
I carry Wilson mags and, currently, 230 gr Golden Sabre's
Plus pepper spray(ASP OC Kubotan...excellant tool!) and a Camiluus Cuda!

June 24, 2004, 06:11 AM
I forgot to mention what I use to carry my guns. I have a versamax II from milt sparksthat makes the 1911 and hipower dissapear into my side. I also have a tucker heritage plus which slides on and off the belt a little faster, that I often use to carry my star bm. I always use a 1.5 inch wilderness belt when carrying ,which seems to make the biggest difference in comfort.

June 24, 2004, 06:35 AM
My primary carry gun is a full size 1911, carried IWB.

June 25, 2004, 01:53 PM
Just changed over to a Kimber Pro-Carry 4". It's not a "full sized" gun but I got to thinking about how I was trying to go smaller and smaller but still have the power of a 40 cal (either the .40 or the .45). So I figured that I would change tactics and try to learn how to conceal a full sized or semi-full sized pistol.

Once you get a good belt (and I thought that all that talk about belts were just a bunch of belt makers trying to troll the gun boards ;) ) the weight is easy to get used to.

June 25, 2004, 02:23 PM
one of my all time favorite carry 1911's is my Wilson Combat Lightweight SDS, but I usually end up carrying my Kimber Tactical Ultra II w/Crimson Trace laser grips (90%). Only when it is so hard to hide the .45's I carry my Kahr PM9 as my pocket pistol/IWB.

Les Baer TRS in Milt Sparks Executive Companion (horsehide, black for enhanced tacticality).

June 25, 2004, 03:16 PM
Full size Kimber Gold Match in a Galco Royal Deluxe belt holster, weather permitting. Else, I carry a SIG P229 IWB.

June 25, 2004, 10:01 PM
Yup. 1911 for me.

Why? I shoot them better. Heck, who doesn't?

June 25, 2004, 10:02 PM
It's small, light, has good stopping power, yet easy to shoot. It's a real shame that Kimber is the only manufacturer to make a compact 1911 with a 4" barrel like this anymore.

June 25, 2004, 10:05 PM
I think Dan Wesson makes a CCO-style 1911 now. Apart from the "Where's Waldo" religious symbols and the heavy steel frame, it's kind of similar.

June 25, 2004, 10:28 PM
3" Colt 1911 (Defender) IWB with Golden Sabers

June 25, 2004, 11:08 PM
I carry a J-frame at work ("business casual"--isn't that an oxymoron), but I carry a full size 5" steel Colt when I'm on my own time.

Para Ordnance, either a P12 (officer size double stack) or an LDA 12 (same thing with the new double action trigger)

June 27, 2004, 11:50 PM
I carry a Colt Concealed Carry Officer Lightweight in a Galco JAK Slide attached to a Wilderness Tactical Instructor belt. I would never have imagined a 1911 could be carried so comfortably and so well concealed.

That's really an accomplishment considering I live in Florida. Being retired, most days I wear denim shorts with a tee shirt, Polo, or maybe a Columbia fishing shirt. It doesn't print at all, nor is it a bother to carry.

Most of the time, a series I 4" Kimber Compact Stainless. Sometimes a (used to be) Series 80 Colt. On rare occasions my Kimber Polymer Stainless, concealment is the biggest issue with this one considering my skinny frame (6' even, 155lbs).

Bought my first handgun in 1967 so I've been doing this pretty steady for 37 years. The majority of that time (over 20 years) I've carried one version or another of the 1911. Tried a few other things like a revolver when I first went into Law Enforcement and 4 years spent trying to master the trigger on a Glock, but I always came back to the 1911 in 45 ACP. It's what I shoot best, feel most comfortable with and have the most confidence in.

"It's a real shame that Kimber is the only manufacturer to make a compact 1911 with a 4" barrel like this anymore."

Not so. No need to appeal to a MIM-parts Kimber! Don't forget the several editions (blued, stainless, lightweight) of the Les Baer Stinger.
It has a 4 1/4" barrel, same as the Commander, and an Officer's Model sized frame, which aids concealment due to the shorter butt.
I carry mine daily.

The configuration is the same as the original Colt CCO, and I consider it an optimal 1911 format for CCW.

"It's a real shame that Kimber is the only manufacturer to make a compact 1911 with a 4" barrel like this anymore."

My Wilson CQB Compact is just one of the 4" Barrel Compacts that Wilson Combat offers with the Officer's length grip. Second time I posted a photo on this thread.

Kimber Pro Tac II SE (without the external extractor) . More recently, however, I have begun carrying this...

July 1, 2004, 07:48 AM
Carry either a 5" nork or a colt commander XS or a SA Champion. Those are the carry rotation anyway. You can't have too many 1911's.

OK. Somebody asked for pictures. Here is my well worn Colt LW Commander. Worked over with all the usual mods. I have been carrying this gun since 1998.

July 2, 2004, 02:21 AM
I carry a full size Kimber Classic Custom Series 1.
