Questions about hot bluing a shotgun

I am going to blue a Remington Premier 12ga shotgun and have a few questions about the project . How is the rib fastened to the barrel ? If it is soldered on will it fall off and contaminate my salts ? Also, is the magazine tube screwed in or soldered ? Lastly , the tube appears to be chrome plated . What will be the result if I put the receiver in the bath with the tube still attached ?

Yes, the rib is likely to fall off. It is either soft soldered or glued on. The magazine tube is silver soldered to the receiver. It won't come off. It also won't blue because it is stainless steel on an 11-87.

Will this solder ruin my salts and leave spots all over the barrel ?

"...How is the rib fastened to the barrel..." Depends on the shotgun. Not sure about Remington's. Some aren't attached over the whole length, some are soldered on(and your bluing tanks shouldn't be getting hot enough to bother the solder), some are plastic or white metal. Chrome won't take bluing, but it won't bother the solution either. It's too hard. If you're worried and can get it off easily, take it off.

I think I answered this on another forum.
The magazine tube is stainless steel. This means the bluing chemicals will have ZERO effect on it, and it will have no effect on the chemicals.
The magazine tube is BRAZED in place in the receiver with an alloy (not real silver) braze. In NO way will the bluing affect the brazing, and the brazing will not affect the chemicals.
As I said there, as far as I know, all Remington ribs are also brazed on, not soft soldered.
Like the magazine tube, the chemicals will not have any effect on the rib, and the rib's braze won't contaminate your chemicals.
