Para-Ordnance LDA carry mode question

A local gun shop has the LDA 6.45 available for about $625 or so (used, excellent condition), and it's pretty tempting. The trigger is awfully sweet. But, with the LDA style trigger, is it necessary to carry cocked and locked? The dealer didn't answer this. I assume not, but the Para website does not have any information to indicate this, one way or another.

Thanks,

emc

No -- the whole focus of their ad campaign is that you dont have to carry cocked and locked. These guns are DAO, or more precisely, LDAO.

Thanks for the info! One thing that I WAS told is that the gun does not have an inertial firing pin so that using the safety is not necessary for safe carry. Any word on this?

Thanks,

The LDA's have the "Series 80" style firing pin block which prevents the firing pin from moving forward for any reason if the trigger is not pulled. This prevents the gun from firing if it falls on it's nose or gets whacked. I would recommend carrying with the safety on if you have a round chambered because the 5.5# pull is not that much. The safety basically disconnects the trigger from the action.

There is no way to cock the hammer (the spur's for looks). You can carry with the chamber loaded, hammer down or hammer down and safety on.

Given the very light trigger, I would be tempted to carry the second way.
