Do any bolt rifles accept M-14 magazines? I thought I saw one that took an external magazine that looked like an M-14 20-rounder but can't confirm.....?

I don't think there are many factory rifles that do, but it's a available as a conversion on Remington 700 rifles.

Same as Nightcrawler.. I've seen a couple folks have it done to their rifles. Always seemed wierd to me though... if you need that kind of volume of fire, you prolly aren't well served with a bolt gun.

But, to each their own I guess.

Robar has the M14 mag option on their rifles.

Skunk, most rifles take about 5 or 6 shots, and they don't require a magazine.. If you need more then that, just like said; the bolt action probably is not the action you want...

But having said all that, get something that will take an M1 Magazine.. You know me, minimization on the logistics...

Well, I like larger capacity magazines on a lot of guns just as a matter of convenience. 10 rounds in a bolt gun strikes me as neato, frankly. It's part of why I want an Enfield!

Besides it's cocking, the 10 round magazine is what made the Enfield the best "battle" rifle of the bolt actions.

Old saying.

Germans had the best hunting rifle

Americans had the best target rifle

Britsh had the best battle rifle

So so far, only Robar?

The Australian company Australian International Arms that made the 7.62x39mm No.4 Enfield Carbine I recently bought is also making a version in .308 that will take M14 mags.

Just don't ask me when they will be available.

IIRC that Robar conversion does not allow you to use stock M14 mags.....they must be modified by Robar to work with the conversion.

Also, from what I have read on different boards, the Robar conversion is hugely expensive, and feed reliability was an issue.

Considering how much trouble Remington had with the 700PSS-DM series of rifles. :(

Skunk, lots of custom makers used to do this. Been around for a while, just a deriv of what gunsmiths around here used to do with M1s and BAR mags when M1s were around for songs.

Clifton used to do it as well as Robar. Plenty of other good gunsmiths can do it as well.

The Title II world is full of these conversions as well.

The Parker Hale series of rifles use M-14 mags. Navy Arms used to be the importer for that line of rifles. I'm unsure who does it now.

FWIW I've heard that metric FAL mags can be easily modified to work in the Savage Scout. I assume that would apply to all the other Savage detachable mag guns as well.

I can't vouch for that as I don't own a Savage Scout. When I'm done saving my pennies and get one I'm going to pick up a FAL mag and try it.

There is a reason that the mags are modified to work in the bolt guns. The spring pressure on the magazines is calibrated to work with a fast moving bolt, so the spring pressure is much greater in order to get the cartridges up fast. That much pressure isn't neccesary on a bolt gun, and in fact hinders a smooth bolt throw.

I think the idea is kind of cool. But I just like lots of extra bullets. :)

Michael Horne has some experience with this type of conversion on a ruger m77.

it's a pain in the ***, because you have to relieve the feed lips in the action to clear the magazine feed lips. (if you remove them the action becomes much less stiff).

probably your best bed for something like this would be to modify a savage short action to use either metric FAL mags or modified m-14 magazines.

the savage has no action feed lips, so no grinding necessary.
